Director Optimization Solutions
About the role
We are seeking a visionary Director, Optimization Solutions to spearhead the development of scalable, repeatable solution frameworks that will transform how we deliver quantum optimization solutions to our customers. In this role, you’ll work hand-in-hand with internal teams and external customers to decode complex business challenges, map them to D-Wave’s cutting edge hybrid solvers and quantum systems, and design, prototype, and deploy powerful production ready solutions. Drawing on these insights, you will architect a next generation Optimization Solutions Framework, that includes a set of repeatable approaches and methodologies, that empowers our team to deliver customer value faster, smarter, and at greater scale than ever before.
What you'll do
Lead the strategic effort to design and implement a scalable Optimization Solutions Framework, creating repeatable approaches that speed and enhance solution delivery for customers.
Collaborate across D-Wave, building strong relationships with leaders in Professional Services, Product and Engineering, Sales, and other teams to align on priorities and opportunities.
Translate customer and project insights into actionable feedback for product and tool development, helping shape new product features.
Deliver clear, compelling presentations and technical content for diverse audiences, from customer stakeholders to internal teams.
Partner with customers to cocreate optimization solutions on D-Wave’s quantum systems, guiding them through every stage from concept to production.
Drive the successful execution of customer projects, ensuring tangible business value, timely delivery, and exceptional quality.
Engage deeply with customers, asking the right questions to uncover underlying challenges, then designing and proposing impactful solutions.
Lead collaborative design sessions to gather requirements, brainstorm approaches, mathematically model use cases, and develop hybrid quantum applications.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture, contributing to a team environment that is supportive, innovative, and fun.
About You
Advanced expertise: A Master’s or PhD and 10+ years equivalent experience in Operations Research, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
Customer-facing excellence: Proven success working directly with external customers (ideally in a consulting role) to identify requirements and consult on solutions to complex business problems.
Optimization mastery: Deep knowledge of mathematical modeling and advanced optimization techniques, with a track record of turning complex theories into practical, high-impact applications.
Full-lifecycle delivery: Hands-on experience guiding projects from business problem definition and requirements gathering through to solution design, prototyping, and production deployment.
Strategic problem-solving: A pragmatic approach to solving real-world challenges, with a strong sense of urgency, ownership, and a clear understanding of what it takes to deliver results.
Technical fluency: Proficiency in Python and familiarity with key libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, and NetworkX (or equivalent frameworks).
Project Delivery: A history of successfully delivering complex projects on time, on scope, and with outstanding quality.
