Within OmniAb are also core capabilities for the discovery and screening of high-value ion channel and transporter targets.

OmniAb consists of dynamic, collaborative, and innovative team members that are passionate about contributing to the technological frontier of drug discovery and to the advancement of global human health. Together, with our partners, we are enabling the discovery of next-generation therapeutics.

About the Role

We are seeking a Director, Business Development, to drive our business development cycle relating to peptide discovery technologies. This position will be responsible for the end-to-end management of out-licensing our peptide discovery platform. The Business Development team focuses on growing our presence in key biotech clusters to gain access to industry leaders and enhance our reputation, as well as facilitating licensing transactions, guiding them from initial outreach through deal execution and client relationship management. This individual will collaborate with our Sciences, Legal, Finance, and Executive teams. The ideal candidate has experience in client-facing business development activities relating to peptide technologies, a broad network of contacts in the industry, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work proactively and independently.

This role reports to our VP, Business Development and Strategy.

This is a remote opportunity based out of the United States and will require up to 30% travel and occasional meetings at OmniAb’s headquarters in Emeryville, CA. This is a full-time position, and the working hours are generally within 8am-5pm PT.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish rapport with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop depth of knowledge in the OmniAb platform as well as fully internalize corporate objectives and understand related corporate goals.

  • Source strategic collaboration opportunities through independent, company-specific research and attend industry partnering meetings/scientific conferences to contact leads, in addition to independently network with leads through a variety of in-person and digital methods, defining and prioritizing these activities with minimal supervisor input.

  • Establish rapport with potential partners and deliver a tailored, persistent approach to creating relationships, becoming potential partners’ point of contact through all aspects of the partnering process.

  • Work collaboratively with various organizations within the company to progress licensing activities, while structuring requests in a precise and well-organized way that maximizes respect for, and efficient usage of organizational energy.

  • Analyze, prioritize and execute partnering problem solving and negotiation strategy, providing fitting levels of emphasis on key issues and gaining feedback from supervisor in appropriate situations while maintaining overall personal ownership over regional partnering activities.

  • Coordinate CDAs, term sheets, license agreements, and other licensing transaction documents to ensure all necessary internal stakeholders provide appropriate input.

  • Maintain database to track partnering activities and provide regular status updates.

  • Stay up to date with the latest science and literature, industry events and competitive landscape relating to peptide technologies.

  • Assist R&D team in crafting messaging and related materials for partnering presentations as required.

  • Contribute to other strategic initiatives or duties as required.

What You Bring

  • PhD or MSc in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or related field.

    • Alternatively, MBA combined with BSc in a related field.

  • 8+ years of full-time experience in a life sciences industry role.

  • 5-7 years of client-facing business development experience in peptide technologies, antibody therapeutic technologies or a similar field is required.

  • 4+ years of experience in the peptide technology space.

  • Strong understanding of peptide-based drug discovery, development, and partnering processes.

  • Experience with peptide synthesis, peptide therapeutics, or peptide screening platforms.

  • Proven ability to build and manage relationships with biotech and pharma stakeholders.

  • Ability to assess and negotiate critical issues in executing deals.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with a confident, humble approach.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and CRM tools.

  • Strong team player with experience working in cross-functional environments.

Our total rewards package includes an annual base compensation, target bonus, equity, refresh grants, ESPP, comprehensive health plans, immediate 401k matching, PTO, sick leave, paid parental leave, commuter benefits, wellness stipend, education reimbursement and more!
