About the Team
The Developer Relations Advocacy Team at HubSpot interfaces directly with our external developer community and helps with building trust and inspiring developers to grow with us, connect with peers, and build for their customers. We do this with actionable content, engaging in relevant conversations, and demonstrating deep understanding and empathy for developers. We also serve as the voice of these developers when communicating internally with HubSpot Product. We work cross-functionally and build on the combined efforts of our internal stakeholders across product management, engineering, marketing, developer programming, and developer community.
About our Developer Community
Our Developer Community is made up of individuals from around the globe, each with varying levels of development skills. They build robust customizations, websites, and apps that are key to how HubSpot attracts and delights its end-users. This audience expects empathy, authenticity, high-quality resources, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
About the Developer Advocate Role
If you are passionate about helping developers expand their skill sets and write efficient, portable, and stellar code, we want to hear from you. As a developer advocate, you will be instrumental in helping Platform developers grow and build better by leveraging HubSpot APIs, resources, and other developer-based tooling. You will lead with empathy as you produce engaging content to educate and inspire developers on a human level while representing their needs and acting as their voice inside of HubSpot.
In this role, you will:
Prioritize the onboarding and platform updates portion of the development lifecycle for those developers building on HubSpot’s Ecosystem.
Prioritize the production, integration, and ongoing maintenance of code samples that illustrate key developer use cases, ensuring they are discoverable and embedded across HubSpot’s developer-facing content.
Support the collection and dissemination of external developer feedback influenced by your platform knowledge.
Have a 30% focus on supporting internal projects which helps the Developer Advocacy and Developer Relations (DevRel) team at large, scaling the work they produce both internally and externally.
Focus on creating ‘code-first’ enablement content—such as guides, tutorials, and live code samples—with an emphasis on practical implementation, clarity, and advocacy tone, rather than formal documentation authoring, which remains the responsibility of the technical writers.
Partner with product and engineering to assess the best way to communicate and launch changes to HubSpot’s APIs.
Test aspects of future developer onboarding tools.
Actively surface code- or developer experience-driven insights to the documentation and cross-functional teams, closing the loop by reporting common pain points or requests and ensuring that emerging issues or needed improvements are directly communicated for documentation updates.
Success in this role will be measured by clear, actionable metrics such as code sample adoption, developer feedback quality, number of code-focused resources published, and positive change in onboarding effectiveness—ensuring that the impact of your advocacy is both visible and quantifiable.
What are the role requirements?
Comfortable coding and deploying a prototype-level application.
Excited to solve for the customer.
Organized and familiar with project-based work.
Motivated to learn new technologies independently.
Ability to conceptually understand and explain technical concepts, details, and overall technologies in simple terms.
Strong communication skills and ability to manage both internal and external stakeholders and adapt communication contextually to your audience.
Confident and eager to learn and share what you learn.
Comfortable being highly visible in spaces where developers are present (including but not limited to webinars, conferences, and online forums).
Comfortable with detail and able to communicate technical details in written form.
Curious and enthusiastic about using AI to enhance app development, content creation, and developer experience, while sharing best practices with the community.
Who succeeds in this role? Someone who is…
Someone who exemplifies HEART.
Hungry to learn and eager to find unique ways to share what they have learned with audiences at scale.
Interested in and able to understand and produce code-level content.
Community-minded and driven to foster and grow the careers of developers.
Able to work cross-functionally and build strong and credible relationships with engineers and architects.
Not afraid to build a following on social media and share on public networks such as Twitter, LinkedIn, GitHub, YouTube, etc.
A team player who loves autonomy in their role with great collaboration and communication skills.
We don’t expect you to be an expert at everything. By collaborating with the other advocates and other internal resources, a candidate with a strong growth mindset will get up to speed quickly.
