Data Scientist II - Hotels

We are looking for an experienced scientist to join our Data Science/Machine Learning team, focusing primarily on our Hotels Auction platform. Our Hotels business is one of the main online resources for travelers researching where to stay on their next trip, and the auction platform is a key component of the technology we use to connect those travelers with hotel operators and online travel agencies (OTAs). As a Data Scientist working in this space, you will have the opportunity to apply your modeling and engineering skills to a number of different areas, but with a particular focus on predictive modeling and auction dynamics. In this role, you will deploy your solutions online and be able to observe the impact of your work through continuous testing and iteration. In your day to day, you will collaborate with a broad multidisciplinary team, including other ML scientists, analysts, product managers, engineers, and partner facing teams to build ML powered solutions that help us understand how our partners value different hotels, and how different types of travelers prefer different types of hotels. You’ll be encouraged to take ownership of your projects and to find new opportunities and problems where machine learning could be applied to improve the business.

Location: Please note, this position will be either office, hybrid or remote-based within Portugal. 

What you will be doing

• Participate in the design and deployment of machine learning models to solve a variety of core business problems across the Experiences business.

• Seek out new opportunities to apply data science and machine learning in the Experiences space.

• Prototype, evaluate, deploy and maintain new models in production

• Design A/B tests and analyze their results

• Communicate progress and interpretation of model output/performance to technical and business stakeholders

• Participate in the determination of next steps for each project

Qualifications:

• PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related quantitative field (or Masters with 2+ years of practical experience).

• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Strong foundation in machine learning and statistics.

• Solid foundation on data structures and algorithms.

• Proficiency in Python.

• Experience with sort and recommendation modeling a plus.

• Experience working with real-world data strongly preferred.

• Previous industry experience a plus.
