FICO (NYSE: FICO)is a leading global analytics software company, helping businesses in 100+ countries make better decisions. Join our world-class team today and fulfill your career potential!

The Opportunity

'We are seeking a Privacy by Design Lead to drive the integration of privacy principles into the architecture, engineering, and deployment of FICO’s digital products and platforms. This role is ideal for a technically fluent professional—such as a software architect, systems engineer, or security technologist—who is passionate about building privacy into the foundation of modern systems. You will serve as a strategic enabler of FICO’s global privacy program, translating legal and ethical obligations into scalable, privacy-preserving design patterns. You’ll work cross-functionally with product, engineering, legal, and compliance teams to ensure that privacy is not just a policy—but a design imperative.' -Data Privacy-Manager.

What You’ll Contribute

  • Architect Privacy by Design: Lead the implementation of privacy by design and by default across FICO’s technology stack. Embed privacy controls into system architecture, APIs, data flows, and cloud environments. Demonstrated ability to create detailed architecture diagrams, including end‑to‑end data flow maps, system interaction diagrams, privacy control overlays, and cloud architecture schematics identifying data ingress/egress points, retention zones, and risk surfaces.

  • Translate Law into Code: Operationalize global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) into technical requirements and reusable design patterns. Proven capability to translate statutory and regulatory obligations into implementable engineering requirements, and acceptance criteria consumable by product, engineering, and data teams.

  • Conduct Technical Privacy Reviews: Lead or support Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new technologies, features, and third-party integrations. Ability to perform full-stack data lineage tracing across distributed systems, including transformation logic review, and identification of unlawful, unnecessary, or high‑risk data propagation paths.

  • Enable Engineering Teams: Develop and recommend “best‑case implementation scenarios” to achieve compliance, including architectural alternatives, de‑identification strategies, and configurable enforcement mechanisms aligned with business and technical constraints.

  • Build Privacy Infrastructure: Contribute to the development of privacy tooling, automation, and governance frameworks that scale across the enterprise. Create reusable templates for privacy engineering tasks, including data mapping models, lineage documentation standards, architectural review checklists, and privacy-by-design design patterns.

  • Foster a Privacy-First Culture: Mentor technical teams, contribute to internal training, and advocate for ethical data stewardship throughout the product lifecycle. Lead workshops enabling engineering, product, and data science teams to operationalize privacy patterns through hands‑on architectural exercises.

  • Stay Ahead of the Curve: Monitor emerging privacy technologies (e.g., federated learning, differential privacy, PETs) and evolving standards (e.g., NIST Privacy Framework). Evaluate and articulate the architectural impact of emerging technologies on existing systems, including risk posture changes, model retraining implications, and control effectiveness.

What We’re Seeking

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, or a related technical field.

  • 5+ years of experience in software architecture, engineering, or technical program management. Experience producing comprehensive architecture diagrams, data models, lineage maps, and system interaction documentation for complex distributed systems, cloud environments, and high‑volume data platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience designing or implementing privacy-preserving systems or features. Ability to identify privacy and security risks directly from system diagrams and data-flow visuals, including detection of unnecessary data exposure points and segregation or minimization gaps.

  • Strong understanding of global privacy laws and their technical implications.

  • Experience designing technical mitigation strategies tied to PIA/DPIA findings such as architectural refactoring, data flow minimization, isolation zones, immutability safeguards, and enforceable configuration controls.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to legal, compliance, and business stakeholders.

  • Certifications such as CIPT, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or Lead Implementer are a plus. If you do not currently hold one of these certifications, it is expected that you will obtain certification within the short term (3-6 months). Additional technical certifications in data architecture, cloud architecture, or data engineering (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Data Engineer, Azure Data Engineer) are considered advantageous.

Our Offer to You

  • An inclusive culture strongly reflecting our core values:  Act Like an Owner, Delight Our Customers and Earn the Respect of Others.

  • The opportunity to make an impact and develop professionally by leveraging your unique strengths and participating in valuable learning experiences.

  • Highly competitive compensation, benefits and rewards programs that encourage you to bring your best every day and be recognized for doing so.

  • An engaging, people-first work environment offering work/life balance, employee resource groups, and social events to promote interaction and camaraderie.
