BI Engineer
At MyFitnessPal, we believe good health starts with what you eat. We provide tools, resources and support to enable users to reach their health goals.
We are looking for a product-minded BI Engineer to join the MyFitnessPal Business Intelligence team. As a BI Engineer, you will be an expert on MyFitnessPal KPI reporting and play a key role in making the MyFitnessPal data environment amenable to self-service via Tableau. The Business Intelligence team is a great place to be at MyFitnessPal. We are on the pulse of the business as we are responsible for KPIs, Monitoring and Alerts, AB Testing, Data Democratization, and Strategic Insights.
If you are highly motivated, results-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, please apply. We’re looking to add talent that can help further define the culture we’re creating: consumer-centric, curious, and always innovating.
What you’ll be doing:
Perform regular maintenance to maintain the quality of our data; in particular, take ownership of our reporting data pipeline and business logic:
Manage complexity when data sources tell different stories
Diagnose changes in KPIs and help identify drivers
Create clear and easy-to-understand analysis and recommendations
Ensure scalability, reliability, and efficiency in BI infrastructure
Perform deep-dive analytics on ad-hoc requests from stakeholders across the organization
Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations to provide actionable insights on MyFitnessPal users
Architect data models to further our data democratization efforts and contribute to our reporting “curated zone” architecture
Develop strong relationships with our partners in Data Engineering to manage projects that unlock data for the BI team
Most importantly, be a trusted partner to our marketing and product BI teams and the core business functions they support
Qualifications to be successful in this role:
MS in an appropriate technology field (Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, etc.) or equivalent experience
2-4 years in a BI Engineering or Analytics Engineering role. Equivalent technology industry experience within business intelligence, analytics, or data engineering functions will be considered
Advanced to Expert SQL
Proficiency with data visualization using tools like Tableau, PowerBI or Looker
Familiarity with programming languages like Python or R for analytics
Experience building data warehouses and modeling data through ETL pipelines (e.g. Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)
Experience with project management and supporting relationships with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Data Engineering)
Ability to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions
Curious Mindset - We are looking for someone who enjoys seeking the truth through data - if you ever found yourself bringing in out-of-the-box datasets and theories because you just had to figure out why a number moved, this is the job for you
The reasonably estimated salary for this role at MyFitnessPal ranges from $95,000 - $130,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, MyFitnessPal offers a wide range of comprehensive and inclusive employee benefits for this role including healthcare, parental planning, mental health benefits, annual performance bonus, a 401(k) plan and match, responsible time off, monthly wellness and technology allowances, and others.
