Analytics Engineer - XData
We’re looking for an Analytics Engineer to help build the data foundation that powers Spotify’s understanding of the user journey — from first content exposure to consumption.
You’ll join XData, a team within Spotify’s Experience Mission dedicated to giving product and insights teams a comprehensive, trustworthy view of how users interact with content. Our goal is to help data consumers understand the full lifecycle of engagement — from when a user first encounters a playlist, podcast, message, or ad, to how and when they choose to listen, skip, or return.
XData strives to enable teams across missions to more optimally use limited exposure opportunities to connect users with content they’ll love. Your work will directly enable this effort, powering insights that influence product design, content strategy, recommendations, and user experience at scale.
What You’ll Do
Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines in dbt and Scio that monitor and measure user exposure, engagement, and consumption across Spotify’s ecosystem.
Collaborate with data experts from the Telemetry Squad, alongside data scientists and analytics specialists from the Epic Squad, to streamline data logging, user behavior instrumentation (UBI), and consumption reporting.
Play a central role in defining data contracts, unifying schemas and metrics, and ensuring consistent tracking across core surfaces such as Home, Browse, Search, Feeds, in-app promotions, and advertising.
Working with data at scale, you’ll ensure that pipelines are reliable, observable, and optimized for both performance and data quality, helping teams make confident, data-driven decisions.
Improve Spotify's data architecture by crafting user journey timelines and standardized schemas. You’ll also champion analytics engineering standards — including testing, documentation, CI/CD for analytics code, and automated data quality assurance — to drive a culture of excellence in data craftsmanship.
Who You Are
Experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or data science, with a strong foundation in SQL, data modeling, and pipeline design.
Hands-on experience with dbt, including building modular transformations and managing dependencies.
Proficient in distributed data systems like BigQuery, Scio, Spark, or Presto or equivalent experience.
Skilled in data logging, instrumentation, and consumption analytics.
Strong communicator who thrives in collaborative, multi-functional environments — able to translate sophisticated technical concepts into practical, actionable insights.
System problem solver who’s curious about user behavior and passionate about building data systems that illuminate how millions of users engage with Spotify.
Pragmatic, collaborative, and invested in building clean, reliable, and scalable data foundations.
Where You’ll Be
We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the EMEA region as long as we have a work location (excluding France due to on-call restrictions).
This team operates within the Central European and GMT time zone for collaboration.
Spotify is an equal opportunity employer. You are welcome at Spotify for who you are, no matter where you come from, what you look like, or what’s playing in your headphones.
