Vocational Specialist

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  To develop and provide vocational services as specified by the referral source for individuals with occupational and non-occupational injuries and disabilities.  To provide vocational services through multiple platforms such as in person, virtually, telephonically or a combination thereof.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtains and analyzes available medical and vocational information including vocational assessment, test results, and functional capacity information to determine suitable job search opportunities and strategies for participants and clients.

  • Complies with all federal, state, or accreditation standards as set forth by the particular line of business serviced (i.e., state vocational rehabilitation, workers compensation, etc.).

  • Conducts training programs, job seeking skills training, and Job Club sessions with clients to enhance their ability to successfully secure employment.

  • Contacts various employers and other employment resources in the community to develop job opportunities and matches clients with job leads.

  • Coaches clients in active job search and/or during retention activities and monitors client compliance through follow-up contacts with employers.

  • Provides services such as resume and cover letter writing, career counseling, adjustment counseling, or vocational evaluations based on credentialing required by referral source.

  • Works with referral source as requested in developing employer incentives and on-the-job training contracts.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Supports the organization's quality program(s).

  • Travels as required.

Education & Licensing

Must hold a specialized certification in one of the following areas: Certification by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC); Case Management (CCM), Disability Management (CDMS),

Also preferred (but not required): Hold a valid unrestricted Rehabilitation Counselor/Professional Counselor/General Counselor license (in states/areas where available/required); Vocational Evaluation (CVE/PVE); Work Adjustment (CWA); Career Assessment Associate (CCAA).

Experience

And have a minimum of two (2) years of vocational rehabilitation counseling/placement experience, and a minimum of two (2) years case management experience in the workers’ compensation arena in order to be considered.

Also strongly preferred (but not required): Recent experience with the FECA vocational rehabilitation program and/or performing vocational rehabilitation in a workers compensation environment.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products

  • Analytical and interpretive skills

  • Problem solving and organizational skills

  • Proven ability to work independently and off-site

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to navigate electronic files and paperless systems

  • Ability to utilize proprietary software effectively for virtual service delivery

  • Ability to create and complete comprehensive, accurate and constructive written reports

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies

WORK ENVIRONMENT

When applicable and appropriate, consideration will be given to reasonable accommodations.

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and cost of specific location. For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting only, the range of starting pay for this role is $58,000-$70,000. A comprehensive benefits package is offered including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, 401k and matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings account, and other additional voluntary benefits.
