Vice President of People Operations & Talent Acquisition
The Role
As the Vice President, People Operations & Talent Acquisition, you will be a key leader of the People Team and a strategic partner to the executive leadership team. You will lead the team focused on People Operations and Talent Acquisition, ensuring operational excellence, compliance, and a world-class employee experience as we continue to scale. This role oversees all aspects of people operations—including compensation administration, total rewards, payroll, HRIS, leaves, and recruiting—while leading, coaching, and developing a distributed team. You will partner closely with our People Business Partners to deliver advice, coaching, and data to our functions across the company and support their talent needs.
You will drive the design and implementation of scalable processes, systems, and programs that support Modern Health’s growth, foster an inclusive and engaging culture, and ensure we attract, develop, and retain top talent. This is a highly visible leadership role that requires a balance of operational expertise and a passion for people-first, data-driven decision making.
This position is not eligible to be performed in Hawaii.
What You’ll Do
Lead, develop, and inspire the People Operations and Talent Acquisition teams, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of compensation and total rewards programs that are competitive, equitable, and aligned with Modern Health’s values and business objectives
Ensure accurate and compliant payroll operations and benefits administration for a distributed, remote workforce
Own the HRIS strategy, ensuring data integrity, process automation, and system enhancements to support business needs
Develop and execute innovative talent acquisition strategies to attract, engage, and hire top talent across all functions and levels
Partner with executive leadership and cross-functional teams (e.g., Legal, Finance, IT) to drive organizational effectiveness, change management, and workforce planning initiatives
Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in all people programs and processes
Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, providing guidance on complex employee relations, organizational design, and performance management matters.
Monitor and analyze people metrics, trends, and best practices to inform strategy and drive continuous improvement
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
Represent Modern Health’s values and mission in all internal and external interactions
Who You Are
10+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with at least 5 years in people operations leadership roles, ideally in high-growth, remote-first environments. Health tech experience a plus
Deep expertise in compensation administration, total rewards, payroll, HRIS, and talent acquisition
Proven experience leading and developing high-performing, distributed teams and collaborating across functions
Demonstrated success in designing and scaling people operations and talent acquisition strategies in dynamic, fast-paced organizations
Strong knowledge of employment law, regulatory compliance, and HR best practices
Experience with HRIS and people systems (e.g., Rippling, Greenhouse, Pave or similar)
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
High emotional intelligence, integrity, and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
Comfortable with ambiguity and adept at leading through change
