Deimos is a Cloud-native Developer and Security Operations company helping businesses adopt the cloud with confidence. We build world-class, secure, scalable tools — while keeping our team deeply human, collaborative, and remote-first.

We work with purpose, in service of meaningful impact. Whether it’s scaling secure systems or improving civic life via tech, our Martians care. You'll work alongside exceptionally talented engineers, designers, and leaders, and you’ll have the space to grow your craft — your way.

Do you love turning complexity into clarity?

We’re looking for a UI Designer to help us create beautiful, intuitive, scalable interfaces across our internal tools, public-facing products, and client platforms. This isn’t a single-product role — it’s an opportunity to work across multiple environments: from operations dashboards and product UIs, to marketing pages and possibly even a little brand refinement.

You’ll bring expertise in UI best practices, visual hierarchy, and deep familiarity with platform-specific patterns (especially for web, iOS, and Android). You should understand not just how to make interfaces look good, but how to make them effortlessly intuitive through informed component choices and clear interactions.

If you’re excited by user interface craft, value simplicity, and can work independently in a fast-paced, remote-first company, read on.

This role sits across our suite of products, including:

  • Deimos One (internal platform)

  • Patrol (WhatsApp-based civic tech)

  • Salus (health + security platform)

  • KPI dashboards, KAM tooling, and more

We’re open to you having a bit of graphic design in your toolkit too — enough to support occasional marketing needs (social visuals, landing pages, light branding work). If you’re stronger in UI and just “conversational” in graphic design, that works too.

You’ll Be Successful in This Role If You...

  • Have a strong understanding of visual hierarchy and know how to guide user attention effectively.

  • Clearly grasp UI/UX best practices, knowing exactly when to use (or avoid) UI components such as dropdowns, toggles, tabs, and modals.

  • Understand platform-specific design patterns and best practices, with demonstrated experience designing intuitive experiences for both iOS and Android.

  • Are skilled in creating and maintaining design systems with thoughtfully structured, reusable components.

  • Understand the constraints and strengths of web and native mobile design clearly enough to advocate effectively within your teams.

  • Are proactive and structured in remote workflows.

  • Have an opinion, but know how to balance it with product constraints and UX input.

  • Understand that speed matters, but clarity matters more.

  • Enjoy a variety of projects — from interface updates to full new flows.

What You’ll Do

  • Design intuitive, visually structured interfaces and interactions for web, iOS, and Android applications.

  • Provide clear, evidence-based UI recommendations for complex interactions (e.g., deciding between dropdowns vs. segmented controls, tabs vs. modals, etc.).

  • Maintain and evolve robust design systems (in Figma), clearly documenting best practices, component usage guidelines, and visual standards for seamless developer handoff.

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and UX strategists.

  • Support marketing and brand teams with occasional graphic design needs (social assets, simple layouts, visuals).

  • Translate UX wireframes or conceptual flows into high-fidelity designs.

  • Refine flows and states — error handling, empty states, loading UX, and more.

  • Ensure consistency of visual standards across products.

  • Prepare files, components, and documentation for developer handoff.

  • Contribute to internal conversations about design standards and product quality.

Skills & Experience You’ll Need

  • 3+ years of UI design experience

  • Proven experience with cross-platform design (specifically, understanding differences and nuances between web, iOS Human Interface Guidelines, and Android Material Design).

  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying visual hierarchy principles, ensuring interfaces are intuitive, clear, and easy-to-navigate.

  • Strong analytical skill in selecting the appropriate UI components based on UX goals and technical feasibility.

  • Ability to articulate design rationale clearly to teams and stakeholders, balancing best practices against product constraints.

  • Comfortable working with UX inputs like wireframes and flows

  • Ability to manage time across multiple products and stakeholders

  • Experience with motion design, micro-interactions, or transitions

  • Bonus: basic graphic design experience (e.g. for social media assets, event materials)

What We Offer

  • Remote-first work across Africa

  • A highly collaborative, no-politics culture

  • A team that actually cares about quality

  • Monthly work-from-home stipend

  • A MacBook or Windows laptop for you to do your best work

  • Flexibility, trust, and autonomy

  • Exposure to real-world impact — not just design for design’s sake

  • Competitive compensation for an intermediate role
