Staff Software Engineer, Backend - Breeze Assistant
We’re seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join a high-impact, new initiative within the Breeze Assistant team at HubSpot. Breeze Assistant is a fully conversational AI chief of staff designed specifically for Go-to-Market (GTM) teams. By integrating frontier AI capabilities with rich data from HubSpot and third-party applications, Breeze provides an AI assistant that fundamentally transforms team collaboration and productivity.
As a Staff Engineer on the Breeze Assistant team, you’ll do many things—and you likely already have experience doing some of them in the past. We are looking for people who:
Have a long track record of experience delivering high-value, high-impact, cross-team projects. Staff Engineers are among the most senior individual contributors at HubSpot; they are leaders who continually strive to raise the bar for the engineering organization as a whole and are expected to help drive the product vision forward through strong collaboration skills and hands-on coding.
Have extensive full-stack engineering experience, particularly with deep backend expertise. Proficiency with technologies like Java, Node.js, MySQL, Kafka, and cloud-native architectures is beneficial. We’re not necessarily looking for someone who is an expert in a specific technology, but someone who is well-versed in engineering principles and eager to leverage them to solve complex problems.
Have experience developing new products from scratch, ideally involving complex integrations, data-rich applications, and user-facing platforms.
Have hands-on experience or familiarity with Generative AI technologies (LLMs, Agents, RAG, etc.). Experience working as part of an AI or platform team is highly desirable.
Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and pragmatic engineering skills, balancing short-term needs with long-term technical vision.
Have a strong grasp of secure, compliant application development practices, particularly around data privacy, governance, and API integrations.
Committed to maintaining a hands-on approach to all technical aspects while providing leadership through effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and internal stakeholders.
Provide strategic direction for major projects and drive technical decisions to solve challenging problems around persistent context, conversational interfaces, real-time collaboration, data governance, and application performance.
Regularly mentor and teach engineers in their areas of expertise.
Exhibit enthusiasm for building reliable, scalable systems.
Can guide teams beyond the status quo; we need engineers who lead us beyond what we have, and towards what we can build, while fostering a shared vision of how to get there.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience developing desktop applications with frameworks like Electron, SwiftUI, or AppKit.
Familiarity with HubSpot or other CRM platforms and integrations.
Demonstrable interest or previous work in developing collaborative and conversational user experiences.
Join us in creating the AI assistant that defines the future of work for GTM teams!
