This role is based in our Product and Innovation function.  Here we innovate and play to develop new, and evolve existing Products and Services, with a focus on customer-centricity, innovation, and product development. ​ We focus on creating and evolving value by encompassing new learning, technology, sustainability, and market trends across our Intellectual Property.

Within the Product Technology team we follow an iterative agile process and a continuous integration and continuous delivery approach, supported by an automated release pipeline. 

Our guiding principle to trust and enable engineers to take ownership of their work and determine the most effective way to deliver it. We encourage continuous learning for our engineers through training and dedicated weekly innovation time. Our people foster a culture of respectful collaboration, where strong relationships based on familiarity and mutual respect allow for open and transparent communication and effective teamwork.

Job Description

Working within a talented team of technology experts, the Staff Engineer plays a leading role in the development of the Insights Product Technology Platform, a highly scalable cloud (AWS) platform using the latest in Java & Typescript technologies.

Technology innovation in the Learning and Development industry is paramount, and through innovative solutions we aim to create a differentiator for our business that provides a legendary experience for our customers on every part of their journey with us.

As a Staff Engineer at Insights, you will be a senior-level individual contributor who plays a critical role in the technical leadership of the department. You will be responsible for driving the architecture, scalability, and quality of robust systems, mentoring other engineers, and shaping the long-term technical direction of products and platforms. Staff Engineers are domain experts who bridge technical strategy with hands-on engineering.

Day to day,  you will:

  • Lead the design and evolution of scalable, high-impact systems and architectures.

  • Drive cross-team technical initiatives and make strategic engineering decisions on performance, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Champion best practices in software development, code quality, testing, and deployment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals.

  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of learning and technical excellence across the department.

Qualifications

 

  • Proven experience leading software engineering teams and delivering high-quality, scalable solutions.

  • Strong hands-on expertise in modern languages and frameworks such as Java, TypeScript, Spring, React, and Playwright.

  • Solid understanding of software engineering disciplines including server-side, client-side, and testing practices.

  • A hands-on, collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms and tooling, including AWS, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Comfortable with Git, code reviews, and driving engineering standards across teams.
