Staff Backend Engineer

At M-KOPA we are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our growing team. We’re applying software engineering to solve very real problems for financially marginalised customers across Africa. Our tech stack handles high volumes of throughput for a unique blend of IoT and Finance. Grow requires us to push the bar higher than ever before so that we can effectively support an ever-growing customer base.

It is a fully remote role #LI-Remote, within the following time zone (UTC -1 / UTC+3). Our engineers work remotely from locations such as UK, Europe and Africa. You will be reporting to the Director of Engineering. 

About this role:

• The goals of the Staff Backend Engineer are to ensure that we have a coordinated approach to building technology, support deep technical issues and provide engineering consistency across large swathes of M-KOPA’s architecture and implementation

• Our primary tech stack is C# hosted on Azure’s Kubernetes Service with some legacy systems based in Service Fabric and some hosted on legacy VM scale sets. We use a large range of Azure services, depending on the microservice use case

We’re excited about you because you:

• You have extensive experience in event driven distributed systems design

• You have significant experience in cloud-based implementations (i.e. Azure)

• You can demonstrable high-quality coaching and interpersonal skills

• You are capable of listening to stakeholders, engineers and engineering leadership without feeling the need to jump immediately to solutions
