Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with 283 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Discovery Innovation Team blends creativity with technology to lead the future of our core content discovery by creating intuitive experiences that understand each member's unique preferences, connecting billions of people worldwide with entertainment that brings them joy, escape, and a sense of connection.

As a technical leader on the Discovery Innovation Team, you will tackle a wide range of challenges and serve as a vital link across the organization. Your role will involve delving into specific areas when needed to kickstart major initiatives or to assist a team in achieving breakthrough outcomes. Additionally, you will provide the necessary autonomy, support, and feedback to the appointed technical project leaders, enabling them to excel. This position requires versatility to support initiatives at any stage, from ground-zero (0-1) projects to scaling efforts (1-100), as well as refining nearly complete experiments (99.9 to 100).

Responsibilities:

  • Dive deep and understand problems across the major investments within Search & Discovery.

  • Partner with other senior technical ICs across Consumer Engineering  to champion significant  technical investments that pave the way for long-term success

  • Work alongside ICs from different organizations to promote comprehensive solutions that balance innovation velocity with technical excellence.

  • Contribute to the career growth of your peers by actively mentoring individuals and building the IC technical community across the organization.

  • Join the Search & Discovery staff playing a crucial role in shaping organizational, partnership, and technical strategies.

  • Operate with a product-focused mindset, ensuring that technical directions align with product objectives and vice versa.

  • Translate diverse product requirements into fundamental capabilities, enabling the team to scale effectively and achieve exponential impact.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate is a bridge between product and engineering, with the demonstrated ability to go both broad and deep into multiple technical or product domains, to help engineering teams connect the dots and do the best work of their lives.

You may be a good match for this role if you:

  • Demonstrated ability to empathize with end-users, maintaining a product-focused mindset that aligns technical direction with product objectives.

  • Comfortable in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, adept at prototyping, experimenting, and iterating—including discarding code—to achieve product-market fit.

  • Demonstrate sound judgement in determining whether to augment existing systems or to quickly prototype new features.

  • Deep technical expertise with a proven track record in setting strategic technical directions, making architectural decisions, and influencing cross-functional teams.

  • Practical problem-solving skills that consider trade-offs and avoid over-engineering, coupled with a strong motivation to learn and expand your expertise across new domains.

  • Experience in designing, building, and operating distributed systems characterized by high availability, throughput, fault tolerance, and performance.

  • Self-driven and highly motivated, with a passion for guiding and mentoring colleagues, and effective at conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Skilled in developing strong relationships with cross-functional teams through clear communication, curiosity, and a collaborative approach.

  • Ability to work with senior leadership to develop long-term technical strategies and map business goals to appropriate technology investments.

  • Curiosity about a broad range of technologies, organizational structures, and product visions, with a commitment to high-quality and high-performance product outcomes.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $230,000 - $960,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits.
