Job Description

This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Warren, MI , you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.

General Motors is seeking an experienced Social & Advocacy Strategy Lead to lead social media strategy across one of our key vehicle brands. In this pivotal role, you’ll develop and execute social strategies, guide a team of experts, and ensure social-first initiatives drive brand engagement and customer loyalty across key social platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. 

 

The ideal candidate has a proven track record of creating successful social media campaigns in-house, integrating social strategies into broader marketing goals, and using data-driven insights to shape brand positioning and relevance. What you’ll do (key responsibilities):  

 

  • Lead Social Strategy Development: Develop and execute social strategies for GM’s vehicle and service brands. Prioritize platforms and key messaging, delivering social-first creative, campaigns, and community engagement strategies to enhance share of voice (SOV) and relevance with diverse customer segments. 

  • Execute Always-On and Tentpole Social Campaigns: Implement social strategies to elevate brand presence and engagement across priority channels (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.), ensuring content reflects both brand and cultural relevance to drive measurable business impact.  

  • Lead Insights-Driven Briefing: Collaborate with brand and agency teams to create consumer and social behavior-based briefs for seasonal and quarterly initiatives, ensuring strategies are informed by cultural, social, and platform trends. 

  • Deliver Cultural & Platform First Approach: Build a framework that aligns content with consumer cultural moments and brand and platform priorities. Manage content calendars for timely and impactful delivery of social initiatives. 

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of experts to execute successful social campaigns. Foster a collaborative environment and develop team members' social media expertise across paid, owned, and earned media. 

  • Competitive & Industry Monitoring: Stay ahead of trends and best practices in social media and digital landscapes. Refine brand positioning based on market insights, competitor analysis, and emerging trends. 

  • Build Community Engagement & Advocacy: Partner with the Influencer Marketing team to develop strategies for earned media, user-generated content (UGC), and creator syndication to enhance brand advocacy and foster authentic social communities. 

  • Monitor Performance & Metrics: Collaborate with Marketing Intelligence teams to track and report on KPIs, including reach, engagement, and brand health metrics, evaluating the impact of social media initiatives on broader marketing and business goals. 

  • Operational Excellence: Ensure consistency in methodologies, workflows, and best practices across brands. Streamline processes to enhance efficiency and speed to market. 

  Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 7-10+ years in Social Media, Brand Engagement, or Consumer Communications Strategy & Execution. 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Business, Marketing, or a related field preferred

  • Deep understanding of the social media landscape, platforms, and industry trends. 

  • Ability to articulate a strong POV and defend it with data-driven insights. 

  • Skill in aligning social media plans with business objectives and core priorities. 

  • Strong ability to convey strategies and plans clearly. 

  • Proven experience leading teams and driving collaborative success.

  • Familiarity with social-first and brand engagement agencies, partners / platforms and tools. 

  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and analytical skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects.

  • High proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.

Additional Job Description

Compensation:

  • The expected base compensation for this role is: ($117,800 - $184,300). Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
  • Benefits: GM offers a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs.
