ENGINEERING AT NIGHT SCHOOL

Software development is just as creative as other disciplines at Night School. Our engineering team values cross-disciplinary thinking to create great gameplay experiences.  Our engineers imagine elegant and extensible systems and work closely with art, design, and narrative.  Here, you’ll flex your ingenuity and skill in multiple areas as needs arise, whether directly in our games, as part of a development support system, or as part of our in-house storytelling toolset, NightTools.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We seek a Senior UI Engineer with strong Unity expertise and a keen artistic and design sense to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing intuitive and visually compelling user interfaces for our games and applications. You will work closely with designers, artists, and engineers to create engaging and seamless user experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-quality, responsive, and interactive UI systems within Unity.

  • Collaborate with designers and artists to translate wireframes and mockups into functional UI components.

  • Implement UI animations, transitions, and effects to enhance user engagement.

  • Optimize UI assets for performance while maintaining high visual fidelity.

  • Work closely with UX designers to ensure usability and accessibility best practices.

  • Develop reusable UI components and frameworks to streamline development.

  • Debug and troubleshoot UI-related issues to ensure a seamless user experience.

  • Distill learnings from playtest sessions into enhanced UI experiences.

  • Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in UI/UX design and Unity development.

Skills & Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in UI development with a strong focus on Unity.

  • Proficiency in C# and Unity UI frameworks (UGUI, UI Toolkit, etc.).

  • Strong artistic and design sensibility with an understanding of composition, color theory, and typography.

  • Experience working with UI/UX tools such as Figma.

  • Ability to implement UI animations using Unity's animation tools or tweening libraries.

  • Experience optimizing UI for various devices, resolutions, and performance constraints.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient at giving and receiving quality feedback.

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with game design principles and player psychology.

  • Knowledge of 3D UI workflows and Unity’s rendering pipeline.

  • Prior experience in mobile or console game development.

  • Knowledge of shaders and visual effects to enhance UI aesthetics is a big plus.

  • Javascript and web tech experience

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $60,000 - $270,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
