The Team: 

Pinterest Technical Program Managers are proactive owners with technical expertise. They are aligned to the highest level company priorities to support successful delivery of programs within their teams.

The Capacity Planning Lead plays a pivotal role in managing our cloud budget. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong technical acumen to analyze, optimize, and report on cloud expenditures. With a hands-on approach, the individual will lead a small team dedicated to cost management, ensuring our cloud investments align with both financial goals and technical requirements.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Budget Oversight: Develop and manage the annual cloud expenditure budget, establishing robust financial controls to manage spend and align with organizational objectives.

  • Technical Leadership: Collaborate with engineering and architecture teams to design cost-effective cloud solutions, ensuring efficient resource usage across complex systems.

  • Cost Optimization: Identify, implement, and monitor strategies for cloud cost savings, including resource utilization optimization, reserved instance management, and dynamic scaling practices.

  • Forecasting and Analytics: Lead efforts in cloud cost forecasting and financial modeling to provide actionable insights and influence strategy through detailed reports and presentations.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary liaison for cloud financial matters, collaborating with finance, engineering, operations, and executive leadership to balance technical and budgetary priorities.

  • Tool and Process Management: Implement and manage tools or systems for cloud cost management, offering guidance in automation and process improvement within the DevOps and SRE frameworks.

  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop a high-performing team responsible for cloud cost analysis and optimization initiatives, fostering a culture of efficiency and innovation.

  • Training and Advocacy: Lead educational initiatives on best practices for cloud cost management, aiming to raise awareness and enhance technical understanding across the engineering organization.

  • Vendor and Contract Management: Maintain strong partnerships with cloud service providers to negotiate contracts, manage billing inquiries, and explore new features or services that could provide competitive advantages.

  • People Management: Manage a team that helps with the above responsibilities

 

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in cloud cost management or cloud financial operations with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

  • Strong understanding of cloud architectures, DevOps, and systems engineering principles.

  • Proven track record of cost optimization and management in large-scale cloud environments.

  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Leadership experience, with a focus on team development and successful project execution.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate with diverse teams.

  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Cloud Financial Management Professional, or similar are a plus.
