GitHub is the home for software development, where developers collaborate to build some of the world’s most important software.

On the GitHub Dependabot Updates team, we're on a mission to safeguard the world's software dependencies - from open source to enterprise. We firmly believe that the key to securing software is to identify security concerns early in the development cycle and provide developers with an exceptional user experience that encourages and supports them to rectify any security vulnerabilities in a way that seamlessly fits into their workflows.

The Dependabot updates (DU) team delivers supply chain solutions. This includes identifying outdated versions of libraries for 20+ ecosystems, creating pull requests to address vulnerabilities and obsolete versions, and offering customizable configuration options. The team is responsible for the services that provide a first-class experience on GitHub, the open-source library supporting multiple ecosystems, and the infra components needed to run dependabot successfully across multiple platforms. These products, which are an integral part of the Advanced Security platform on GitHub, empower individuals and organizations to build safer and more secure software.

The opportunity:

Come join our engineering team and help us secure software for millions of users and enterprises across the world! The team has a lot of exciting projects ahead for you to lead, including adding support for new languages and package managers, empowering users to understand their dependencies and how to secure them, and scaling to meet GitHub's global demand.

The Engineering organization is highly distributed and the right candidate can thrive in an environment of asynchronous communication. We expect you to have strong written communication skills and be able to create working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe.

Minimum Qualifications:

For this role, we’re looking for an experienced software engineer

  • Exposure to and/or advocacy of static/dynamic analysis tools or security best practices

Minimum salary of $104,400 to maximum $276,900.

In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
