As the Senior Manager of Donor Research, you will be a strategic, integrated partner to the Global Philanthropic Engagement (GPE) fundraising team, developing and executing on a data-driven prospect research strategy.  You will lead and manage a team of Research Analysts providing research and data analytics support to the GPE team, and will be responsible for enhancing the team’s research and data analytics capabilities to equip it as a best-in-class prospect research function and a proactive partner to the philanthropic fundraising team.  The Senior Manager of Donor Research will work cross-functionally with fellow GPE leaders to understand and collaborate on fundraising strategy as it pertains to research and help drive towards campaign and revenue goals.

 

What Will You Do? 

 

 Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintaining a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully uphold Compassion’s ministry in prayer. Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors.  

 

Act as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understand Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commit to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abide by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Report any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately support responses to incidents if they occur. 

 

Provide Leadership & Strategic Thinking for the GPE Research team. Having a strong executive presence and familiarity with working alongside c-suite level individuals, this role will establish close partnerships with GPE fundraising leadership, staying appraised on highest needs, challenges and initiatives and how research can provide research and data solutions to support those. Thoroughly understand GPE work and processes, identify opportunities and gaps, and be proactive in seeking research/fundraising industry best practices to effectively assess and guide the team. Ensure consistent, transparent communication around Research processes, criteria and assessments.  

 

Drive Prospect Research Efforts & Mindset. Support ongoing efforts in building, leading and implementing a high-performing prospect research team, using a strategic mindset to align research with fundraising priorities and organizational goals.  Explore, test and implement a variety of research strategies that enhance prospect identification, qualification and pipeline development. Help drive and facilitate the moves management strategy for GPE. 

 

Manage and Equip the GPE Research Team. Regularly assess skills and knowledge of team to effectively coach and equip the Research team to conduct accurate and meaningful analysis and review, and present confident and clear recommendations to positively impact fundraising team results. Establish and manage work allocation and assignment processes to ensure requests are appropriately prioritized and assigned to staff for best resource utilization and highest value to the ministry. Hire, manage, and develop staff, managing performance, including discipline.  Establish goals and objectives, assess motivation and conduct annual reviews to develop and enhance individual performance and organizational capability.  

 

Position and Equip Research Team to be Strategic, Integrated Partners. Build awareness and understanding of how fundraising team members can work with Research and best utilize data and insights. Provide transparency into level of effort and return-on-investment with research-developed deliverables. Drive research to build a deeper understanding of fundraising and research trends re: donor insights, wealth assessments and network connections to inform capacity assessments. Equip Research team to effectively provide guidance in translating data into actionable insights for fundraisers. 

 

Drive Research Tools & Data Management. Proficient with Salesforce and donor databases, as well as wealth screening tools, this role will lead strong data management practices, identify opportunities for improved workflows, configuration and user interface, and collaborate with the product team for testing and implementation.  Oversee development and enhancement of data visualization, using Tableau dashboards sourcing data from Snowflake, to provide date insights.  Understand data privacy regulations and ethical research practices globally.  

 

What Do You Need 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • 7+ years’ Experience in prospect research, fundraising intelligence or a related field within a nonprofit, university or global organization  

  • 5+ years experience managing a team of direct reports

  • Expertise in wealth analysis, donor profiling and philanthropy trends 

  • Proficiency in fundraising CRMs, preferably Salesforce, and research tools

  • Strong understanding of data analytics and business intelligence applications in fundraising

  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and ethical prospect research practices 

  • Ability to use persuasion and influence to drive consensus and change

  • Exceptional communication and strong leadership skills

  • Comfortable with navigating change, uncertainty, and evolving strategies

 

Preferred Skills/Expertise 

Fundraising 

  • Experience in a large-scale capital campaign or multi-year fundraising initiative  

Business Intelligence

  • Experience developing data visualization dashboards in tableau

  • Familiarity with development and use of predictive modeling

  • Understanding of data structures and experience navigating data warehouses such as Snowflake

Global and Cultural Awareness 

  • Experience working in a global context, understanding international philanthropy trends. 

  • Awareness of cultural nuances in donor engagement and wealth assessment across different regions. 

  • Ability to lead research across multiple markets, sectors, and languages. 

Change Management & Innovation 

  • Experience transforming a research function into a strategic advisory unit. 

  • Ability to implement new tools, methodologies, and best practices in prospect research.
