Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!

Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.

It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.

We're looking for a Lead for Regulation and Markets - North America with a passion for the energy transition, who wants to join a rapidly growing energy tech unicorn. This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in driving client success across North America with an international industry leader, while also shaping policy and regulation.

You will help accelerate the growth of Kraken in North America by building trusted relationships with a critical stakeholder group: utility regulators/policymakers, client regulatory teams, and external advocacy partners. Licensing and implementing Kraken to regulated North American utilities is subject to myriad state and federal laws and regulations. Our long-term success in North America depends on a combination of deep client partnerships as well as strong regulatory engagement.

An ideal applicant will be adept at building trusted relationships with both clients and internal/external stakeholders, able to roll up their sleeves to understand the details of proposed regulations and client needs, a capable writer, a crisp communicator, comfortable in external settings, and a partner who can advocate for changes alongside our clients to maximize the benefit of Kraken’s technology.

You will report directly to the Head of Regulation and Markets in North America and work closely with our business development, delivery, and client success teams.

Be the expert

  • Advise internal business stakeholders on North American policy and regulatory activity to support Kraken licensing and implementation efforts

  • Gather and interpret market and regulatory intelligence, anticipate changes, and inform commercial go-to-market strategy, the needs case and value case for Kraken in a regulated market, and product roadmap

  • Create detailed written communications (memos, presentations, comments) for internal and external stakeholders

  • Navigate and track regulatory filings and databases to gather regulatory intelligence and data that can be used to strengthen Kraken’s marketing and value proposition materials, commercial strategy, and client engagements

Build strategic relationships

  • Build relationships with external audiences (e.g. client regulatory teams, regulators, partners, etc.) that establish Kraken as a key thought-leader and problem solver

  • Engage proactively in commercial negotiations and strategic discussions with client prospects to align client engagement with the prevailing regulatory landscape

  • Cultivate relationships with industry leaders, including utilities, public utility commissions, government agencies, technology implementers, and trade groups

  • Contribute original thought leadership and market influence activities in support of Kraken’s North American activity, products, and commercial model. This includes participating in external panels, attending trade conferences, authoring original media content, etc.

Drive results and win

  • The policy and regulatory landscape that governs utility investments into innovative software technologies (and the market outcomes they enable) is complex and technical. We’re looking for someone who can roll up their sleeves and perform detailed analysis

  • Work with partners and clients to advance adoption, integration, and regulatory alignment to accelerate our growth and close deals

  • Provide ongoing regulatory support to clients

  • Help guide regional prioritization of finite resources

What we're looking for

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 4-6 years of relevant experience, working for an investor-owned utility, state utility commission, and/or utility software company

  • A strong grasp of US utility policy and regulatory paradigms. Must be able to gather and apply market/regulatory intelligence to commercial and client strategy

  • Aptitude for detailed analysis of energy and utility regulatory matters, including relevant single-issue topic areas (e.g. state climate policies, rate design innovation, demand-side flexibility market design) as well as the process of utility investment approval and cost-recovery

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (simplifying complex topics into clear written artifacts like memos, briefing papers, executive-facing communications) as well as interpersonal skills

  • Experience successfully working with consultants, lobbyists, and trade group memberships

  • Comfort working in a low-structure, constantly-evolving, fast-paced environment

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred

$110,000 - $150,000 a year
