Team Summary:

At Mozilla Foundation, we believe the Internet should be a force for good — one that’s open, safe, and inclusive by design. Our mission is to ensure that the Internet is a global public resource that is accessible to all. We mobilize communities, fund bold ideas, and push for tech that serves people. Through advocacy, education, and open-source innovation, we work to make good on the Internet’s promise. Our newly-formed Development team drives philanthropic support that fuels our work.

Position Summary:

The Senior Fundraising Strategist is responsible for engaging Mozilla Foundation supporters in order to meet our organizational grassroots fundraising goals. This includes growing our donor base globally, finding opportunities to solicit existing and prospective donors, and producing content that aligns with our mission and goals.

This role will be crucial to telling Mozilla’s story and crafting how we connect with our supporters. You will translate Mozilla’s advocacy work, programmatic work, and relevant news stories into compelling fundraising opportunities to mobilize our community.

In addition, you will support A/B testing and optimization projects to improve the potential of the grassroots fundraising program. This will include crafting testing plans, supervising results, and reporting out on key findings and next steps. This role reports to the Manager, Grassroots Fundraising.

Principal Responsibilities:

Strategy Development + Implementation - 45% of time

  • Develop engaging fundraising campaigns in line with Mozilla’s mission.

  • Pitch ideas to engage our global community with the goal of growing our grassroots donor base.

  • Support the planning and execution of our end-of-year fundraising strategy.

  • Move one-time and recurring donors up the ladder of engagement, encouraging them to increase their level of support.

  • Re-engage lapsed donors to ask them to renew their support.

  • Identify A/B testing priorities and design testing plans across a number of fundraising channels.

  • Analyze results and engagement metrics to build upon past success and optimize the fundraising program.

  • Research trends and best practices in the nonprofit sector in order to refine Mozilla’s grassroots fundraising and mobilization efforts.

Writing + Material Production of Content - 40% of time

  • Write compelling fundraising content to deliver to our community across channels such as email, website, and more.

  • Work within the Development team and across teams to develop fundraising content that is aligned with our advocacy campaigning efforts.

  • Convey technical subject matter in conversational and nuanced language – clearly detailing information in a way that is accessible to Mozilla’s supporters.

  • Develop creative and automated email campaigns for donors to further their engagement with Mozilla and increase their level of giving.

  • Prepare experiment write-ups to summarize A/B test variations, methodology, hypothesis, results, statistical significance, conclusion, and next steps.

General Support of Supporter Mobilization Efforts - 15% of time

  • Support non-fundraising initiatives to mobilize Mozilla’s global community.

  • Collaborate within the Development team and with the Tech Platforms team on projects to deliver a more personalized experience for donors.

  • Contribute to the email calendaring process and assist with QA of emails.

  • Find opportunities to refine processes and practices to provide a best-in-class experience for supporters.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of digital fundraising experience or working in digital campaigning; experience working in nonprofits with internet rights or consumer rights organizations preferred.

  • Excellent email writing skills and the proven ability to empower supporters to take action.

  • Experience writing emails for a diverse, global, large scale (1+ million subscribers) email list.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop successful online donor recruitment strategies based on donor data and insights, fundraising trends within the nonprofit sector, and organizational priorities and plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis on a range of complex technical and political issues, and turn these issues into fundraising opportunities.

  • Strong analytical, oral, written, and social communications skills in English (equivalent to ILR 4).

  • Strong familiarity with CRM and campaigning tools (e.g. Salesforce, Campaign Monitor, ActionKit).

  • Experience in managing larger cross-team projects, specifically including technical staff.

  • A self-starter and great teammate who adheres to schedules and timelines while focusing on details and process.

  • Experience working successfully in a remote capacity with a team that is geographically dispersed.

Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to navigate cross-organizationally, articulate needs and solve problems.

  • Excellent data analysis skills to inform fundraising strategies.

  • Project management skills.

  • Organizational, collaboration, and time management skills.

  • English copywriting skills that adopt Mozilla’s voice and tone, connect donors with the Mozilla Foundation’s work and motivate Mozilla's community to donate.

  • Commitment to continuous improvement and learning.

  • High level of cultural competence and ability to work across cultures.

  • Commitment to principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Dedication to the Mozilla Manifesto and the Mozilla Foundation mission to protect and ensure an open and accessible internet for all.
