The Platform as a Service (PaaS) group at HubSpot is made up of over 20 engineers and is growing fast. Our mission is to delight product teams by improving their efficiency and time to market while delivering a reliable and fast product experience for HubSpot customers. This work ties directly into HubSpot’s core mission of helping its customers grow better.
The PaaS group provides compute, traffic delivery, and cost optimization as a service to HubSpot's infrastructure and product teams. This group manages the core and highest criticality services and systems in our infrastructure using self-managed open-source software hosted in AWS cloud. The PaaS teams manage Traffic Delivery: Ensuring high availability and performance through efficient load balancing and traffic management. Core Compute: Overseeing the management and scaling of Kubernetes clusters and AWS instances to support robust and scalable infrastructure. Cost Analysis and Efficiency: Providing detailed reporting and optimization strategies to minimize costs and maximize resource utilization.
We manage Kubernetes clusters that handle millions of requests per second, and our load balancing solutions ensure that user interactions are seamless and reliable. Our cost efficiency initiatives have led to significant savings, optimizing resource allocation across the organization.
Over the years, we’ve invested significantly in building an infrastructure platform that enables our engineering teams to move quickly. Our systems process millions of requests per second, and our cost-saving measures have optimized resource utilization significantly. Our engineers love the platform — we survey the team twice a year and the NPS scores for the platform tools range between 45 and 70.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibility of the Senior Engineering Manager is to manage the engineering team inside the three infrastructure product groups: Delivery, Cost Efficiency, and Compute. These teams build systems that engineers use directly and also provide component libraries that help our teams go faster. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is passionate about crafting the PaaS vision that enables the core Hubspot product and drives company-wide impact!
At HubSpot, engineering leaders play to their strengths, but are aligned with HubSpot’s mission and show the leadership qualities that we’ve found to be most effective:
They build trust, respect, and empathy, and use that as a base to deliver radical candor.
They foster an inclusive team and sense of mission.
They have strong working relationships across the organization, from the tech leads and the individual contributors who report to them, to their peers & the executive team.
They understand our customer and business needs.
They understand how we build and why.
They represent our mission, culture, and commitment to DI&B to candidates.
They get team members and candidates excited to take on new challenges.
As an engineering leader at HubSpot, you’ll do many things — many of which you likely already have experience executing. This includes::
Leading teams building infrastructure that works with cloud providers and integrates third party systems.
Collaborating with other engineering leaders on all matters that impact the Engineering team, including resourcing and building technology/product vision.
Pushing the team to build software that’s useful, usable, delightful, and solves real customer pain.
Coaching and mentoring engineering teams, including code reviews, higher-level software design, and direct management.
Working closely with recruiting to grow remarkable engineering teams hands-on.
Working with vendors to explore third party capabilities and secure contracts.
If you’re an engineering leader of any level or experience, and if this resonates with you, let’s talk. We know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply — we’d love to hear from you
