Octopus Deploy sets the standard for Continuous Delivery, empowering software teams to deliver value in an agile way. Over 4,000 organizations globally – including Ubisoft, ASOS, Xero, Stack Overflow, NASA, and Disney – rely on our Continuous Delivery, GitOps, and release orchestration solutions.

We’re a profitable scale-up of 300+ people, growing steadily. We’ve built a high-trust, remote-first, and value-driven culture where people are given space to do their best work.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager (L5) to lead our Cloud Platform team, reporting to the Director of Engineering. The team of 11 — engineers plus a Principal Engineer, Product Manager, and Researcher — is distributed across Australia and New Zealand for easier time zone collaboration.

You’ll be part of a cross-functional, mission-oriented Product Leadership Team (PLT) with a Product Manager, Product Researcher, and Principal Engineer sharing accountability for your team’s outcomes.

Your focus will be on people leadership, delivery, and coaching. You won’t be expected to code, but your technical background will help you guide engineers, make sound decisions, and coach for growth.

The Cloud Platform team plays a critical role in delivering a standout hosted experience for Octopus Cloud customers. We support global customers with Azure infrastructure, including multiple Kubernetes clusters.

Here are examples of their released, planned, and under consideration work.

A typical week might include

  • Clarifying goals, priorities, and how your team’s work ties into Octopus’ strategy.

  • Coaching engineers of all levels, helping them grow their careers and unlock their full potential.

  • Supporting a team that values autonomy and thrives in a high-trust remote environment.

  • Guiding trade-offs and strategic decisions as part of a B2B SaaS platform that’s still scaling.

  • Collaborating with other leaders in engineering, product, and design to influence and uplift practices across Octopus.

  • Managing and optimising the Cloud Platform: from cost efficiency and performance to reliability and vendor relationships.

What we’re looking for

  • A leader who balances delivery accountability with people growth, ensuring teams ship reliably, make pragmatic trade-offs, and deliver impact.

  • Confidence leading sizeable teams in a similar context to ours (B2B SaaS scale-up).

  • Skilled at managing in a remote-first setting, with empathy for distributed work.

  • Strong technical grounding in software engineering, with the depth to coach effectively.

  • A people-first leader who creates a culture of belonging, inclusion, and fairness.

  • Able to spot dysfunction early and address it quickly to build sustainable, high-performing teams.

  • Confident leading through large organisational change while keeping people engaged.

Why you'll love this role

  • Lead a stable, well-functioning team ready for their next chapter.

  • Work on a strategically important platform.

  • Success is measured across delivery, people growth, and platform reliability — a broad and meaningful remit.

  • As a scale-up, you’ll have opportunities to influence beyond your team — shaping initiatives across R&D or the whole company, expanding your impact and career.

Compensation

Octopus has an internally open and transparent system for compensation. Any Octonaut can view the compensation for any role at any level. This ensures people doing the same work with the same skill get paid the same.
