Role Description

As a Senior Engineering Manager focused on Orchestration & Planning within the Dropbox Dash organization, you will lead the team responsible for building the brain of Dropbox’s next generation agent platform, the system that enables agents to reason, plan, and act on behalf of users.

You will play a crucial role in areas such as agent orchestration, planning and coordination, and developer platform enablement. Your team will design the core decision-making and execution systems that power Dash, Dropbox’s AI-first productivity product, and set the foundation for other teams across Dropbox to build intelligent agents.

You will play a crucial part in defining how Dropbox builds and scales AI-powered systems across its 700M+ user base. You will gain substantial senior leadership exposure, collaborate across AI research, Core Dropbox, and product teams, and have the opportunity to shape the architectural and cultural foundations of Dropbox’s AI platform.

Our Engineering Career Framework is viewable by anyone outside the company and describes what’s expected for our engineers at each of our career levels. Check out our blog post on this topic and more here.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers building the orchestration and planning layer of Dropbox’s agent platform

  • Define and deliver the long-term vision, technical roadmap, and execution strategy for agent orchestration, planning, and developer tooling

  • Partner with research and product teams to translate user goals and AI capabilities into reliable, scalable orchestration systems

  • Drive system design and implementation for multi-agent coordination, scheduling, and failure recovery

  • Oversee the creation of an automated evaluation platform to measure agent performance, accuracy, latency, and reliability

  • Ensure platform quality through strong observability, testing, and continuous evaluation pipelines

  • Foster a high-performance engineering culture rooted in collaboration, experimentation, and accountability

Many teams at Dropbox run Services with on-call rotations, which entails being available for calls during both core and non-core business hours. If a team has an on-call rotation, all engineers on the team are expected to participate in the rotation as part of their employment. Applicants are encouraged to ask for more details of the rotations to which the applicant is applying.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building or operating orchestration, scheduling, or workflow systems

  • Deep technical understanding of distributed systems design, fault tolerance, API design, and service reliability

  • Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional technical programs, aligning research, product, and infrastructure teams toward shared goals

  • Experience managing technical roadmaps, hiring plans, and performance management for senior-level engineers

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on measurable outcomes such as latency, throughput, reliability, and cost

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to influence across organizational boundaries and present to senior leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or managing agentic AI systems involving multi-step reasoning, tool orchestration, or planning frameworks

  • Background in AI evaluation systems, LLM-based quality assessment, or continuous feedback loops for generative models

  • Prior work designing developer platforms or SDKs enabling internal or external teams to extend core infrastructure
