Description

The Senior Director I, Data Science (Specialty Modeling) will lead Liberty Mutual’s U.S. Personal Lines Specialty Product pricing model development, with a focus on Landlord, Umbrella, Condo, Renters, and related Specialty products. This role will oversee a team of managers and data scientists (approximately 12 in total) dedicated to building, enhancing, and maintaining best-in-class predictive models that support pricing decisions in the Specialty space.

This position reports to the Head of Property and Specialty Product Design and Modeling within USDS. The leader in this role will play a critical part in both defining strategic vision and executing highly technical work, with an emphasis on ensuring timely delivery of new models, maintaining strong technical rigor, and identifying opportunities to improve current and future product designs. Collaboration will be essential, particularly with the Property and Specialty Product team and the Specialty Risk Analytics team, to bring new and revised pricing programs to market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of managers and data scientists, fostering technical excellence and supporting professional growth.

  • Provide both strategic and hands-on direction in Specialty pricing model development, including technical oversight, execution, and timely delivery of new models.

  • Oversee the design, build, and implementation of predictive models for Landlord, Umbrella, Condo, Renters, and related Specialty products.

  • Partner with leaders across the Property and Specialty Product group and the Specialty Risk Analytics team to align modeling efforts with business strategy, including strategizing complex objection responses.

  • Drive innovation in modeling techniques and processes, identifying opportunities to enhance current models and anticipate future product needs.

Qualifications

  • Responsible for the management, technical oversight and development a team of data science and advanced analytics staff, which may include subordinate managers.

  • Coaches team to understanding of organizational vision and goals.

  • Collaborates with business partners to develop tools and services such as modeling, dashboard development, and decision aids to drive strategic decision making.

  • Provides strategic and tactical direction at the highest levels. Has accountability for the performance and results of one or more large, strategically important business unit in an extremely large market.

  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.

  • Owns relationship with a defined segment of the business, delivering advanced tools and insights, including ongoing monitoring of metrics and initiatives.

  • Responsible for highly technical, individualized and difficult to develop tools and their usage which are transformative in nature and have broad strategic impact to the aligned business units(s).

  • Leads highly technical, complex, and cross functional projects that drive change across function, SBU or Corporate Department.

  • Directs and may perform highly complex, technical and creative predictive analytics projects and cross functional assignments within designated business unit collaborating with multiple functions.

  • Shapes the data science community and/or larger audiences and leads cross functional working groups.
