About the role

We are seeking a seasoned and technically adept Senior Director, Advanced Computing Business, to join our Quantum System sales team. In this strategic role, you will drive customer success and revenue growth by delivering advanced quantum systems solutions to our global client base. Reporting to the Vice President, Advanced Computing Business, you will serve as the principal technical authority across pre-sales, deployment, and post-sales engagement, helping customers navigate the complex journey of adopting quantum computing technologies.

You will act as a trusted advisor to customers and partners, providing deep technical insight and hands-on guidance throughout the lifecycle of our on-premises quantum systems. Working at the intersection of sales, R&D, and technical account management teams, you will play a vital role in shaping customer outcomes, advancing deployment strategies, and influencing the evolution of our quantum hardware and software platforms through real-world feedback.

While prior experience in quantum computing is advantageous, we value broad technical leadership in high-performance computing (HPC), systems integration, or advanced scientific computing environments. The ideal candidate brings 10–15+ years of experience in technical sales, systems delivery, pre-sales solution engineering, or product engineering leadership, with a strong foundation in hardware/software architecture, research computing, and applied mathematics or data science.

What you'll do

  • Present technologies and solutions to potential customers, aligning company offerings with their computational challenges, business models, and funding structures.

  • Communicate the company’s vision and strategy to both executive-level and technical decision-makers, helping them understand product roadmaps and the long-term value of our solutions.

  • Support the sales team by providing deep technical expertise in areas like HPC, Machine Learning, AI, Math/Algorithms, Optimization, SaaS, and Cloud Services.

  • Deliver technical presentations and demos at key industry events, including conferences, webinars, and seminars.

  • Oversee the technology evaluation process, ensuring positive outcomes and delivering comprehensive data reviews to stakeholders.

  • Advocate for customers by clearly communicating their requirements to R&D and Product Management teams to influence product development.

  • Provide technical expertise related to the application of quantum computing to address complex computing challenges including industry trends and competitor analysis.

  • Identify and recommend new customer projects, leveraging company solutions to address emerging needs.

  • Assist the System Sales team in qualifying leads from a technical perspective, ensuring alignment between customer needs and company offerings.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, with extensive experience working directly with technical customers or end users.

  • Experience in advanced computational technology, AI/machine learning, or embedded systems, with deep domain knowledge in one or more of these areas.

  • 10–15+ years of experience in technical sales, pre-sales solution engineering, systems delivery, or product engineering leadership, with a strong foundation in hardware/software architecture, research computing, and applied mathematics or data science.

  • Proficiency in High Performance Computing (HPC) and data-center environments, with an understanding of related funding, engineering, business, and competitive challenges.

  • Strong programming, systems architecture, or computer systems engineering skills.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

  • Experience presenting to external stakeholders, facilitating engagement and driving collaboration.

  • Ability to align solutions with customer needs, mapping our portfolio to solve key challenges.

  • Proven ability to establish credibility as a trusted advisor with customers, partners, and key stakeholders.

  • Consultative, customer-focused approach to sales and problem-solving, actively listening to understand customer goals.

A D-Waver's DNA

  • We look at the future and say “why not”; we see possibilities where others see problems or routines. We show the way ahead and are committed to achieving ambitious goals.

  • We practice straight talk and listen generously to each other with empathy. We value different opinions and points of views. We ensure that we connect outside as well as inside to learn from others and inspire each other.

  • We hold ourselves accountable for delivering results. We make decisions & take responsibility so that we can act & support each other.

  • As leaders we motivate & engage our teams to undertake beyond what they originally thought possible, by developing our teams & creating the conditions for people to grow and empower themselves through enabling & coaching.

Our Compensation Philosophy is Simple but Powerful:

We believe providing D-Wavers with company ownership, competitive pay, and a range of meaningful benefits is the start of creating a culture where people want to give the best they’ve got — not because they’re simply making money, but because they’ve fallen in love with our vision, mission, values, and team.

During the interview process, your Recruiter will explain how our compensation package works. The final offer is determined by your proficiencies within this level.

Inclusion:

We celebrate diverse perspectives to drive innovation in our pursuit. Our employees range from distinguished domain experts with decades of experience in their respective fields, to bright and motivated graduates eager to make their mark. Our diverse and innovative team will make you feel appreciated, supported and empower your career growth at D-Wave.
