As a senior technical leader, you will have broad responsibility in the design, development, and operation of systems and products at Twilio. You will balance new product development with maintenance and modernization of existing software systems. The successful candidate will be a champion of best practices across the engineering organization, will bridge teams to efficiently build the right solutions for our customers, and will role model our core values and principles.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
Be an expert in building, operating, and scaling complex software systems
Design and develop core systems that support a wide range of products
Partner with other engineering leaders to build world-class products
Ensure world-class reliability, security, and cost-efficiency for all the products we build
Actively mentor other engineers across the organization
Apply strong business judgement when making technical decisions
Raise the standard for engineering excellence through teaching, mentoring, and sharing best practices across the company

Required:
Proven experience designing and building large-scale, cloud-based, highly available software systems
Deep expertise in operating and scaling distributed software systems to support both synchronous and asynchronous workloads
Skilled at balancing long-term architectural vision with short-term business priorities, enabling pragmatic and sustainable solutions
Committed to implementing best practices in software design, development, and operations across the organization
Strong cloud expertise with hands-on experience in cloud ecosystems (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure) and designing systems optimized for performance and cost-efficiency
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Strong collaborator, able to influence and build productive relationships across engineering, product, and business teams
Location
This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas.
Travel
We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $245,800.00-$307,200.00
Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $260,000.00-$325,300.00
Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $289,100.00-$361,400.00
This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
