Senior AI Engineer
The Opportunity:
As a Senior AI Engineer on our AI Infra Pod, you will build the systems, tools, and workflows that enable every Grow Therapy team to turn cutting-edge AI into patient and provider value—safely, reliably, and effortlessly. You’ll partner with Product, Data, and operational stakeholders to identify high-impact opportunities and ship AI-powered workflows across the company.
You’ll work on initiatives like building internal AI Agents for claims data extraction and submission via OCR, building support for mcp integrations and the voice modality of our coach assistant, and improving the overall performance and accuracy of our AI Agents at Grow as a whole
What You'll Be Doing:
AI systems engineering: Design, build, and own LLM-powered services and orchestration that deliver reliable, low-latency experiences. Extend microservices, task queues, and event-driven data pipelines to support AI use cases at scale. Applied AI development: Develop prompts, retrieval and context engineering strategies, embeddings, and agentic workflows. Build evaluation frameworks; measure quality, latency, cost, and consistency; and iterate based on data.
Reliability, performance, and cost: Own service SLOs; optimize model and service selection for throughput, latency, and cost; and instrument systems for observability and continuous improvement.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Product, Data, Insurance Operations, Customer Support, Legal, HR, and other teams to scope workflows and ship pragmatic solutions that reduce toil and improve accuracy.
Enablement and mentorship: Evangelize AI best practices, create reusable tools and documentation, and provide guidance to engineering peers to scale AI adoption across Grow Therapy.
You'll Be a Good Fit if:
Bring 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems
Have hands-on experience with industry-leading models and APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) and tool use.
Are fluent in prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, context engineering, and embeddings.
Have built agentic AI workflows and understand when and how to use them effectively.
Can design and implement LLM-powered workflows end-to-end—from data pipelines to APIs to UX integration.
Understand tradeoffs across model choice, latency, cost, and consistency, and make principled decisions accordingly.
Bonus Points:
Curiosity to explore new models, libraries, and tools (e.g., OpenAI Assistants API, Claude Tool Use).
Experience building AWS services with Terraform
A desire to mentor others and scale your impact through evangelizing AI usage and creating reusable tools and documentation.
Have experience with distributed systems engineering, including microservices and task queues, and are comfortable with event streaming and data orchestration workflows.
Engineering Team Principles:
You own what you build. You will feel ownership of the code you write, articulate the importance of the feature, and follow up to ensure it's successful.
We build solutions for our providers and clients. We write code to solve user problems, not just for the sake of solving technical problems.
You are not part of the tech team, but rather part of the team itself! Grow is a tech-enabled business and not a pure software business, so understanding how the business works is integral to your job.
Role Details:
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Base Compensation: The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $220,000 USD annually.
Please Note: Grow Therapy adjusts base salary based on geographic location, leveling, and experience, so your compensation could land anywhere within the posted range.
