Scopely is looking for a Principal Systems Designer to join us remotely from the US or Canada!

Scopely is building an exciting AAA multiplayer action game for consoles, PC, and mobile, using Unreal 5. We believe this stylized fantasy project has the potential to be massive in scale and industry-defining!

What You Will Do

As a Principal Systems Designer, you will be part of a skilled development team who are tasked with the creation of long term progression systems, focused on social RPG goals. The size and dynamic of this team will grant you considerable responsibility and autonomy in building and maintaining fun, engaging mechanics for millions of players. You will be expected to:

  • Deeply understand players' needs and motivations to inform design decisions

  • Work with project leads and other designers to develop RPG systems with long-term player progression, crafting, and social interaction as a focus

  • Brainstorm, document, and work with a team of designers to bring these systems to life

  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams in the creation of systems that leads to visible, accessible, user-friendly, and engaging features

  • Produce and update feature specs that contain the right level of detail while staying concise and easy to understand for the whole team

  • Iterate using player and team feedback to optimize for fun, comprehension, and function

  • Playtest the game, continuously pushing for improvements to existing designs

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working on progression related systems in games, focusing on fun, balanced systems with long-term play

  • Experience working on large and complex gameplay systems such as RPG or 4x economies, crafting systems, or RPG itemization

  • Ability to develop and communicate complex systems on Core, Meta and Social layers

  • Ability to work well within an international and multicultural, dynamic, cross-discipline, and iterative team environment

  • Self-motivated, positive, and collaborative, with an ability to receive and provide objective, useful feedback

  • Understanding of designing and modeling for crafting economies in a live game

  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills

Bonus Points

  • Experience in MMO, Simulation RPG, or similar design

  • Experience with social gameplay

  • Experience with Unreal Engine

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
