ABOUT THE INDIA CONTENT  TEAM

Our content team in India includes content creators who make thousands of awesome videos, articles, and practice questions aligned with the Indian curriculum to help both teachers and students. We are actively working on content localization in other regional languages as well, which means the content we co-create reaches a wider number (both nationally and globally), thereby quintupling the impact.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Math content creator to support our efforts of creating practice questions aligned for grades 1-5. This will be a work from home freelance position where you will be given an initial onboarding on our content principles and then you will be paid per exercise created. Important: We are looking for folks who can provide conceptual understanding and write crisp and clear questions and hints and create images as needed.

In this role, you would: 

  • Create exercises for Khan Academy.

  • Continuously iterate and improve content based on feedback received.

ABOUT YOU

You would be a great fit for the role if

  • 4+ years of experience: Creating educational content for NCERT or State Board Math.

  • Exceptional Communication: Impeccable communication skills are non-negotiable.

  • High Ownership & Agility: You're a fast learner who can swiftly support 1st–5th grade Math content. You timebox effectively, prioritize shipping over perfection, and are proactive - communicating clearly, flagging blockers early, and staying self-directed. Your passion for education fuels your drive to make a real impact.

Note: This role is open only to Indian citizens living in India.

TASK

Create four Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with hints for each concept below to test students’ understanding of the following two skills:

- Multiplication of 3 digit numbers with 2 digit numbers

- Sort 3D shapes

So, eight questions in total. Keep the following  guidelines in mind.

On the questions

  • Each of the four questions, they should each target the skill/concept in a unique way

  • Don’t cue other questions in the set, each question should be independent and not require a solution of previous questions to be able to solve them.

  • Avoid trick questions, focus on questions that truly test students’ understanding of the skill

  • Use an appropriate level of vocabulary

  • Create questions that address student pain points based on your teaching or educational experience

  • Word the question positively, avoid negatives such as NOT or EXCEPT unless there is a pedagogical reason for their use. If negative words are used, use the word cautiously and always ensure that the word appears capitalized.

On the options

  • Use as many options as make sense and are plausible and no more.

  • Options should be mutually exclusive.

  • Phrase choices positively; avoid negatives such as NOT unless essential to the question.

  • Make all incorrect answers plausible.

    • Use typical errors of students to write your distractors.

    • Statements that are true but don’t answer the question can be good distractors.

    • Avoid blatantly absurd, ridiculous options

On the hints

  • The main purpose of hints is to provide in-task intervention or assistance for students while they are attempting a question. They are NOT simply a solution to the problem.

  • The first hint provides general guidance or strategy to nudge the students in the right direction.

  • Hints should:

    • Help students get unstuck on the question by providing scaffolded support.

    • Build understanding of relevant concepts in a way that can be applied to similar questions.

    • Be conversational (like a human tutor) and not too formal/bookish. But don’t swing too far and be too casual either. 

    • Not be too long. Consider using images to make them shorter.

Optional: You can also add rationales to your MCQ options. On rationales

  • The main purpose of rationales is to give students feedback about why a specific option is right or wrong. This occurs after a student has already selected an option. Write your rationales below the options ( e.g. exercise 1 given below) after you submit the answer.
