The Community You Will Join:

A person in this role will partner with our Guest & Host Engineering and Data Science organization. Airbnb is powered by our Guest and Host communities. Our teams work on everything from driving improvements for the end-to-end Guest and Host experience to launching new product verticals from the ground up. Our job is to build world-class, comprehensive platforms and features to create high quality experiences for our outstanding community of Guests and Hosts.

You will have an opportunity to impact every person who travels or hosts on Airbnb. This role is deeply cross-organization, as successful project delivery is done with close collaboration with product, design, operations and finance partners. Building positive relationships across a multitude of cross functional teams will be essential to the success of this leader.

The Difference You Will Make:

Our team of TPMs demonstrate ownership, apply skills in whatever combination necessary, make order out of chaos to achieve the desired outcome. We work hard to ensure teams understand what they have to deliver and by when. We are responsible for aligning teams, identifying or highlighting dependencies, recognizing and resolving ambiguity, setting expectations, anticipating risk, identifying and removing roadblocks, and ensuring the desired business goals are achieved. We are looking for people who share our passion for tackling complexity head-on while building a world class team of Technical Program Managers.

A Typical Day:

  • Build and maintain a high-performance culture- you will be responsible for developing a team of TPMs, providing continual feedback, coaching and career growth for direct reports

  • Help scale your team's impact by favoring automation over manual work, setting realistic goals and expectations with stakeholders, and up-leveling TPM skills

  • Through yourself, your TPM  manager peers or through the TPMs identify and drive process improvements which are needed to either improve the quality of engineering deliverables, or allow for more efficient tracking of engineering deliverables within the product lifecycle.

  • Act as the communication lead for the G&H Tech engineering community for the delivery of features for one of our bi-annual product releases. This involves close collaboration with PMO, Design, QA release leaders on communicating program level updates as well as identifying and running down program level risks and areas of ambiguity.

  • Collaborate with TPM Manager peers and Design, PMO and Finance peers to create alignment on strategies and roadmaps, and ensure effective prioritization / trade-offs against overall strategy and organizational constraints

  • Provide executional guidance and support for your team’s projects by helping simplify the technically complex, unblocking teams, identifying risks and opportunities

  • Partner with your peers leading other TPM teams to strengthen the craft

  • As needed, hands on management of large, complex, strategic programs

Your Expertise:

  • 13+ years in technical program management function, with at least 3 years experience managing and mentoring a team of TPMs, creating a culture of inclusiveness and sustainability

  • Interest and extensive experience driving change within an organization which includes ability to effectively navigate organizational or process ambiguity to achieve a goal or outcome.

  • Nimble, self-motivated, curious, proactive with a proven ability to adapt to changes and effective working in a dynamic env where priorities can shift from day to day.

  • Organizational leadership, with proven ability to collaborate and influence teams across boundaries

  • Experience with spearheading, evangelizing and iterating on processes improvements which contribute to higher caliber of engineering deliverables or improved ways of working within engineering or with engineering partners like design, product, finance, operations.

  • Appreciation and experience working with engineering teams who value iterative development best practices

  • Highly organized and impeccable communication skills.

  • Experience growing a TPM function or PMO within a startup environment is appreciated but not required.

  • Experience with managing projects involving both creative/marketing and eng is appreciated but not required.
