Our mission is to ensure that the Internet is a global public resource that is accessible to all. We mobilize communities, fund bold ideas, and push for tech that serves people. Through advocacy, education, and open-source innovation, we work to make good on the Internet’s promise. Our newly-formed Development team drives philanthropic support that fuels our work.

Position Summary:

The Manager, Grassroots Fundraising will lead the grassroots fundraising program for the Mozilla Foundation and will be responsible for raising millions of dollars per year in unrestricted funding. These funds are crucial for meeting the Foundation’s yearly operating budget and maintaining the public support test required for 501c3 status. This role is part of the Development team, and will report to the Director, Grassroots Mobilization.

You will have a crucial role in meeting Mozilla’s fundraising goals, crafting the program and calendar needed to meet those goals, and reporting on our progress. This role will deliver a best-in-class experience for our community by integrating fundraising efforts with our campaigning, communications, and community work, developing content aligned with our brand, and running a fundraising program that is rooted in Mozilla’s core values.

Principal Responsibilities:

Strategy Development + Planning - 30% of time

  • Develop the strategy to meet or exceed Mozilla’s annual grassroots fundraising goals through a combination of one-time giving and monthly donations.

  • Lead the planning and execution for our biannual fundraising campaigns across the organization.

  • Integrate monthly giving into the broader fundraising program by recruiting new donors to give monthly and stewarding active recurring donors.

  • Work in partnership with the Tech Platforms team to advance fundraising projects related to donation tools, CRM functionality, and data needs.

  • Build and lead a comprehensive A/B testing program to find optimizations in all of our digital fundraising channels, and then integrate these takeaways into the strategy and implementation of our fundraising plans.

  • Track external markets and continually assess digital fundraising leading practices, new innovations to increase business revenue.

  • Advance Mozilla’s brand in the grassroots fundraising program measured through revenue, donor retention, and donor feedback.

Writing + Material Production - 20% of time

  • Prepare compelling fundraising content and A/B testing plans to mobilize Mozilla’s global community across a number of channels such as email, website, and more.

  • Develop guidelines for writers to align all materials with Mozilla brand guidelines and reputation.

  • Review and edit copy developed by others to ensure it meets Mozilla’s brand guidelines, and reflect leading practice as advised by data analytics.

  • Prepare experiment write-ups to summarize A/B test variations, methodology, hypothesis, results, statistical significance, conclusion, and next steps.

Analytics + Reporting - 10% of time

  • Operationalize, manage and analyze the efficiency of donor acquisition, retention and one-time and monthly giving initiatives to grow Mozilla’s base of grassroots donors.

  • Report on the data and results of our fundraising efforts across the Mozilla ecosystem to advise leading practices on engagement and fundraising.

  • Analyze trends, find opportunities and challenges, and develop strategies to meet goals in each fundraising channel.

Internal Collaboration + Communication- 20% of time

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to cultivate an understanding and dedication to fundraising in their respective programs.

  • Develop a cohesive supporter experience, in coordination with our community, advocacy, and campaigning efforts, that integrates fundraising as a core aspect of what it means to take action with Mozilla.

People Management - 20% of time

  • Manage the Senior Fundraising Strategist and Coordinator, Supporter Engagement & Stewardship

  • Coordinate consultants, agencies, and partners to support fundraising activities, as needed.

  • Hire and supervise writing contractors in key geographies on an as-needed basis, ensuring all writers can match Mozilla’s tone and brand identity in fundraising messages.

Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years experience as a digital fundraiser in the non-profit or political space, including three or more in a leading role in a digital fundraising program.

  • Experience handling email lists of more than a million people, or in raising millions of dollars online in a year.

  • Experience with writing and reviewing content that has a primary goal of mobilizing grassroots supporters to take action.

  • Proven track record in A/B testing for fundraising, including crafting tests, conducting data analysis, and charting next steps.

  • Established expertise in leading a fundraising program in a virtual team with limited in-person touch points.

  • Demonstrated experience in working in programs that respect user privacy, including GDPR-compliant organizations, requiring double opt-ins, limited user tracking, and similar constraints.

  • Experience with email and fundraising platforms like ActionKit, Action Network, Nationbuilder, ActBlue, Campaign Monitor, Engaging Networks, and Every Action to raise money.

  • Strong analytical, oral, written, and social communications skills in English (equivalent to ILR 4).

Competencies:

  • Excellent communicator who can work cross-organizationally to find opportunities and solve problems.

  • Outstanding writer in English who can craft compelling copy – or edit copy prepared by others – to motivate Mozilla's community to make donations.

  • Data tracking and analysis to advise fundraising strategies.

  • Excellent strategic planning and project management skills.

  • People leadership skills.

  • A self-starter and great teammate who adheres to schedules and timelines while focusing on details and process.

  • Strongly preferred experience in a global organization or with a multilingual email list or fundraising program.

  • High level of cultural competence and experience working across cultures.

  • Dedication to principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • A dedication to the Mozilla Manifesto and the Mozilla Foundation mission to protect and ensure an open and accessible Web for all.
