Job Title: Machine Learning Engineer

Location: Remote

Position Type: FTE

Compensation: $200,000 $230,000 (USD)

Job ID: #155325

Company Overview

We are a global commerce platform and payments technology company that helps businesses solve operational complexitiesfrom employee benefits and fleet management to streamlining payments. Our mission is to simplify the business of running a business, freeing our customers to focus on what they love. Our platform leverages customer-driven innovation across data, AI, and risk to deliver scalable, secure, and intelligent systems.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically accomplished Senior Staff Engineer to lead the design and development of our next-generation Risk Platform. This is a hands-on leadership role driving the technology vision and architecture for a unified, scalable, cloud-native platform that supports risk operations, credit underwriting, and finance risk management. The platform will be built on top of our Data and AI infrastructure using open-source technologies and cloud-native tools.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the architecture, design, and development of the Risk Platform with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, performance, and observability.

  • Collaborate closely with the Risk Product and Risk & Compliance teams to deeply understand business needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.

  • Serve as a hands-on technical leader, setting engineering direction, reviewing design documents, and guiding implementation across teams.

  • Partner with Data, AI, Security, and SRE teams to ensure system integration, secure architecture, and performance SLAs/SLOs are met.

  • Build and mentor a high-performing global engineering team; coach on engineering excellence, agile best practices, and high-quality delivery.

  • Ensure systems meet production-readiness standards and are well-monitored, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective.

  • Set a high bar for software engineering practices, including automation, code quality, CI/CD, and DORA metrics.

  • Partner with other product and engineering leaders to drive platform integration across business offerings.

Additional Focus Area Machine Learning Engineering

This role is especially suitable for engineers with a background in end-to-end machine learning system design, with a particular emphasis on model training pipelines. The ideal candidate will have experience working with traditional machine learning algorithms such as Support Vector Machines (SVMs), Decision Trees, and similar approaches, rather than deep learning systems.

You will collaborate closely with the Data and AI Platform teams to integrate ML capabilities into the Risk Platform, supporting use cases such as fraud detection, credit risk scoring, and operational risk modeling.

Deep learning experience is not required; the focus is on traditional ML workflows and productionization.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of architecting and delivering complex enterprise platforms.

  • Deep hands-on experience in backend architecture, cloud computing (AWS and/or Azure), and container technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Lambda).

  • Strong experience building or contributing to risk platforms or systems related to fraud prevention, compliance, or underwriting.

  • Demonstrated experience with traditional ML techniques and building production ML pipelines (e.g., feature extraction, model training, deployment, monitoring).

  • Familiarity with Data Engineering and MLOps practices.

  • Expertise in observability, incident management, and production system metrics.

  • Strong stakeholder management, cross-functional communication, and ability to influence across engineering and product organizations.

  • Bachelors degree in computer science or related technical field; advanced degree (Masters/PhD) preferred.

Leadership & Personal Traits

  • Mission-driven with strong empathy, listening, and inclusive leadership style.

  • Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams in fast-paced environments.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to articulate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Passionate about continuous learning, technical innovation, and improving engineering processes.

  • Operates with integrity, humility, and accountability.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, high-impact role with a competitive base salary (commensurate with experience) and eligibility for annual bonuses. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), tuition reimbursement, wellness programs, paid time off, and more.
