Legal Contract Specialist

The Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Legal Contract Specialist to join our legal team. This role focuses on managing the full lifecycle of commercial contracts, primarily supporting our B2B software transactions, while ensuring legal compliance and mitigating risk. You will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel and various internal teams, especially Sales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract Management & Record Keeping: Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts according to MariaDB policies and applicable laws, including NDAs, subscription agreements, license agreements, and both standard and complex non-standard contracts, mainly sale contracts and occasionally buy contracts. Organize review, e-signing and filing of contracts in a Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of legal requests in a legal tracker.

  • Internal Support & Collaboration: Provide timely legal guidance to internal teams worldwide, particularly Sales, ensuring contractual nuances are understood and addressed. Collaborate effectively with other departments globally.

  • Process Improvement & Knowledge Maintenance: Assist the Deputy General Counsel in managing and streamlining the contract review process for efficient high-volume workflow management, regularly review and update the Legal Home and the Legal Knowledge Book. Stay current on relevant legal developments, industry best practices, particularly in commercial law, intellectual property and Legal Tech including AI.

Qualifications

  • Experience & Legal Knowledge: Minimum 2 years of direct experience with commercial contracts (drafting, reviewing, negotiating), preferably gained in the software industry or at a law firm with a relevant specialization (e.g., IP, commercial transactions). Strong understanding of commercial law principles, especially within a B2B software context.

  • Bar Admission: Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar admission required, or candidate must be actively pursuing bar admission.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to analyze legal nuances.

  • Excellent organizational skills; proven ability to manage a high volume of contracts efficiently.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with diverse, global teams.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and handle requests promptly.

  • A genuine interest in technology and AI.

Preferred Skills

  • Bilingual proficiency, English and another language(s).

  • Legal experience with open source software.

  • Experienced in applying AI and prompt engineering to legal tasks.

  • Location on the US East Coast to better align with team time zones.

 

Location: USA Remote (Preference for US East Coast)

Compensation

The annual anticipated U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000 - $140,000.  Actual salaries may vary and fall outside of this range depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, geographic location, skills, experience, and competencies.

In addition, we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than the job description as posted. Salary is one component of MariaDB’s total rewards package, additional benefits includes health insurance, life, and disability insurance, funds toward professional development resources, Flexible Paid Time Off (FPTO), paid holidays, and parental leave, just to name a few!
