The Role We Need:

PadSplit is looking for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to streamline legal processes while ensuring on-time communication/production on legal filings and investigations.  This person will also work with internal stakeholders to improve processes. This role will provide vital support to the legal team, and help mitigate risks to support PadSplit’s growth by being accountable for timely and accurate legal work. 

The Person We Are Looking For:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of legal processes and excellent communication skills.  Experience with zoning or real estate is a benefit. The ideal candidate will excel  in a remote environment; is proactive in prioritizing and achieving  tasks with minimal supervision; and has a proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.  If you are passionate about supporting our mission of solving the affordable housing crisis and eager to contribute to a growing team, then we encourage you to apply and help make a difference!

Here’s What You’ll Do Day-To-Day:

  • Collect, organize, and manage documents and data to respond to litigation and investigative requests, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness.

  • At the direction of in-house counsel, prepare materials for discovery and investigation requests, drawing from internal sources.

  • Conduct internal investigations into alleged safety incidents at PadSplit homes, including speaking with members/tenants and homeowners as needed.

  • Document and track safety investigations, maintaining detailed and organized records for future reference.

  • Provide clear and timely communication to hosts, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and available resources in coordination with the Host Advocate team.

  • Maintain and update a litigation and insurance claim tracker, recording case statuses, deadlines, and critical timelines to support timely legal responses.

  • Monitor and manage a database of code enforcement notices, including communicating with hosts about these issues. 

  • Draft and send host communications to hosts about  sensitive matters via Zendesk.

  • Process and track invoices from outside counsel, ensuring accurate record-keeping.

  • Support in-house counsel with other legal administrative tasks while upholding confidentiality and protecting sensitive data.

Here's What You’ll Need to be Successful:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree with prior experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, law enforcement, or a similar investigative environment.

  • Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of legal concepts and processes, particularly in litigation, investigations, and zoning regulations .

  • Research & Analytical Skills: You excel at  conducting thorough research, analyzing data, and solving complex problems effectively.

  • Communication Skills: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to discuss sensitive topics with external and internal stakeholders professionally and with discretion.

  • Technical Proficiency: High level of proficiency with Google Workspace; familiarity with Zendesk and Slack is preferred.

  • Organization & Time Management: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.

  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy and thoroughness in all work, especially when handling legal documents and data.

  • Professionalism: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and communicate effectively about legal or potentially contentious matters.

  • Self-Motivation: A proactive self-starter who thrives in ambiguous situations and can work independently without needing close supervision.

  • Personal Attributes: Strong interpersonal skills, time management abilities, and a problem-solving mindset, with comfort addressing high-stakes or complex issues.

The Interview Process:

  • Your application will be reviewed for possible next steps by the Hiring Manager.

  • If you meet eligibility requirements, the next step would be a video screen with a member of the PeopleOps team for about thirty (30) minutes.

  • If warranted, the next step would be a video interview with our Associate General Council for forty-five (45) minutes.

  • If warranted, the next step would be a video interview with a small panel of key stakeholders for one (1) hour. For this interview, a candidate would complete a short writing assessment during the panel for discussion.

  • If warranted, the final step would be a thirty (30) minute interview with our Chief Legal Officer.

  • If approved, then we move to offer!

Compensation, Benefits, and Perks:

  • Fully remote position - we swear!
