American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Leave and Workers Compensation Specialist to join our Human Resources department. This position will provide oversight and administer the companies leave of absence, ADA, workers compensation, ergonomics and health and safety programs by providing excellent customer service and meeting all regulatory requirements. 

Salary Range   

   

American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $48,000 to $65,000 Full-Time Annual Salary Range.  

Remote Worker Considerations  

Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This remote/WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network (minimum internet download of 50 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload speed).  

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of ADA, Leave of Absence (LOA) and Workers Compensation Processes:

  • Meets with employees to discuss the leave and Workers Comp process and provides appropriate documents and guidance

  • Partners with third-party leave of absence administrator and oversees the relationship.

  • Maintains and updates leave tracker, HRIS and time keeping systems, and informs appropriate parties as needed, .

  • Responsible for tracking and billing employees on leave who have benefits and processes payments received, a plus.

  • Follows up with employees scheduled to return from leave of absence to ensure appropriate return to work process.

  • Approves Kincare absences as appropriate.

  • Seeks counsel as directed and refers significant or complex matters to Associate Director, Benefits and Vice President, Human Resources.

  • Facilitates the interactive process for disability related accommodations and works closely with department heads.

  • Provides injured workers with workers compensation claim form and notifies occupational injury clinic of specific information related to injury.

  • Notifies workers’ compensation carrier of work injury.

  • Follows up with injured worker to obtain work status report and discusses work restrictions with manager.

  • Coordinates and facilitates bi-Annual Workers Compensation review process.

  • Reviews Loss Run Reports and responds to inquiries from Work Comp carrier.

  • Works with broker and insurance carriers on ways to reduce the cost of claims.

  • Reviews, investigates, and analyzes related trends in employee’s accidents and injuries to develop solutions.

  • Complies reports such as US Department of Labor/Bureau of labor statics and complies and posts annual OSHA 300 logs as required.

  • Participates in trainings for management.

  • Provides oversight of the companies Injury and Illness and Emergency programs:

  • Maintains the Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

  • Ensures OSHA requirements are met.

  • Provides Ergonomics training to management as needed.

  • Reviews and responds to ergonomic equipment requests from managers and employees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. If equivalent experience, high school diploma required.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive leave of absence, ADA and workers’ compensation experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, CFRA, PDL, and state specific leave and disability requirements.

  • Experience with EEOC and DFEH claims.

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in, Workers Compensation, health and safety, and ergonomics within a corporate environment. Knowledge of OSHA regulations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience working in a HRIS and timekeeping system. UltiPro a plus.

  • Professional Certification in Human Resources or Benefits preferred.

  • Ability to display excellent customer service to meet the needs and expectations of both internal and external customers.

  • Excellent listening and interpersonal communication skills to identify critical core competencies based on success factors and organizational environment.

  • Demonstrated accuracy and productivity in a changing environment with constant interruptions.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information, problems, issues, situations and procedures to develop effective solutions.

  • Ability to exercise strict confidentiality in all matters.

Mobility

Primarily sedentary, able to sit for long periods of time. 

Physical Requirements

Ability to speak, see and hear other personnel and/or objects.  Ability to communicate both in verbal and written form. Ability to travel within the facility. Capable of using a telephone and computer keyboard.  Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

Environmental Conditions

Work-from-home (WFH) environment.
