What You Will Do:

Within the Energy Providers practice, the company recognizes its clients are experiencing multiple, simultaneous transformations that challenge everything about existing business models and ways of working while opening new opportunities. The Key Client Partner will drive growth and customer satisfaction in the Energy Providers Practice through crafting, selling, and overseeing delivery of the firm’s extensive suite of services which includes strategic advisory, technology, and risk management consulting engagements.  The primary focus of the position is on Investor-Owned Utilities.  Charged with overall account growth and satisfaction, this role of Key Client Partner requires a self-motivated, driven professional with strong sales, business acumen, closing skill, and a proven track record of success in complex solution selling.  The position requires a solid understanding of Utilities & Energy business operations and passion for execution excellence.

  • Craft, sell, and oversee delivery of strategic advisory, technology, and risk management consulting engagements, with a primary focus on Investor-Owned Utilities.

  • Develop/expand long-term client relationships that will lead to repeat business, meeting and exceeding sales targets set.

  • Lead the pursuit and closure of new consulting engagements.

  • Identify and qualify opportunities within the energy utility industry and develop proactive strategies to increase the company’s market share.

  • Build deep trusted advisor relationships with key Utility client stakeholders and decision makers.

  • Collaborate with senior consulting professionals in the delivery and solutions teams across the company to cross-sell a broader range of the company’s offerings to its Energy Provider clients.

  • Improve client business performance through benchmarking, process improvement, performance metrics, operating risk assessment, and implementation of continuous improvement principles for clients, including: 1.) Assessing and guiding the business process and organizational changes required to improve organizational effectiveness 2) Building results-oriented business processes, develop and implement long and short-term strategies, and transition business models for clients 3) Providing oversight to project assignments, including development of team, outline of work plan, direction and coordination of technical contributions, and oversee budget and schedule

  • Contribute strategic industry, subject matter expertise and thought leadership on project assignments within the business unit or elsewhere within the organization.

  • Continuously expand knowledge of the energy utility market via literature, research, networking, and the development of relationships with key client decision makers.

  • Develop and implement sales strategies and employ sales tools that lead to a deep understanding of a client’s challenges and opportunities, which may then be translated into revenue producing services.

  • Attract, build and expand strong relationships and interact regularly with existing and new clients, teaming partners, and key stakeholders in the energy utility market.

  • Set personal performance goals which are aggressive, achievable, and meet or exceed long-term goals.

  • Provide mentoring to junior level staff.

  • Manage all aspects of client relationships and oversight of engagement delivery.

  • Review and, at times, prepare and deliver reports, presentations and other documents for client deliverables.

What You Will Need:

  • Fifteen plus years' experience in key client business development and account management in the Energy and Utility sector in the West (preferably California).

  • Executive level energy business experience with a deep background in the energy utility industry, including market structure, asset management, regulation, and clean energy trends.

  • Proven track record of developing and growing key client accounts in the energy utility industry.

  • Demonstrated ability to ascertain market direction, trends, and disruptions to determine methods of market penetration.

  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think systematically.  

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills including the ability to frame complex issues to achieve recognition and/or concurrence.

  • Business savvy with proven skills to listen to client needs and identify viable, revenue producing, client solutions. 

  • Ability to leverage existing client relationships to gain entry to key decision makers that lead to business opportunities and engagements.

  • High degree of self-confidence and determination.

  • Highly developed organizational and management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities without diminished effectiveness handling multiple priorities and assignments

  • Ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of an organization.

  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and slide presentation software.

  • Experience developing and using analytical models and simulations.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

  • Ability to work individually, as part of a team, or leading a team.

  • High integrity professional with a personal commitment to honesty and a strong sense of ethics in all decisions and actions.

  • Bachelor of Science from accredited College or University

What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree.

  • Demonstrated year over year experience of selling Multiple Million dollars of consulting and managed services annually

  • Heavy preference for management consulting

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Business

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a commutable distance from Los Angeles or San Francisco CA, Boulder Colorado, Minneapolis MN.

The annual salary range for this position is $310,000.00-$520,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
