What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

Job Description

What we are building:

• we are currently building a new video engine for playback of video designs

• on iOS, we are looking at optimisations to work with browser/native code and gain speed and memory optimisation for this playback

• for that we need to investigate options to work with the iOS compositor

Who we need:

• we need a strong engineer, someone who thinks about the solution and the user impact first - rather than someone who looks at the tools being used

• we need someone flexible, being able to adapt quickly in ambiguous projects

Skills we need:

• we need a strong iOS engineer, someone who has deep experience on developing for mobile

• we need someone who understands the differences/common point with Android

• we need someone who’s got understanding of graphics or video development

• we need someone who has experience with more than just swift, but has also worked with low level languages like rust, c, c++

• need someone who has strong exposure to web browser APIs

You're probably a match if:

• You have experience in responsive (cross-browser and cross-device) web development (HTML/CSS/JS)

• You have a deep understanding of key browser concepts, including the Video Element

• You bring an ability to write performant, reusable code for UI components, including appropriate testing

• You can maintain and extend existing features with a mindset of maintainability and performance

• You're enthusiastic about teamwork and collaboration
