By ensuring that we are ahead of the curve in terms of compliance, we not only protect Mercury from potential legal and financial pitfalls but also position ourselves as a trustworthy and reliable partner for our customers.
We are seeking a highly motivated compliance leader to build a team of strategic compliance advisors to product teams across Mercury. You will be responsible for developing team strategy, establishing critical relationships with teams building products across the organization, and implementing product governance mechanisms. Your team will support all new product development, identifying risk and developing strategies for compliance, as well as ensuring existing products remain compliant as they continue to scale.
In this role, you will:
Lead the Product Compliance function, establishing relationships across product teams and delivering value-add compliance advisory service
Partner with cross-functional risk, legal, and product teams to bring Mercury products to market in a way that meets all relevant financial partner and regulatory compliance obligations
Develop and implement programs and mechanisms for assessing new product risk and identifying product launch conditions consistently across new product and feature launches
Represent Mercury in external meetings with financial partners and regulators; provide input on partner agreements and clauses representing the interests of Mercury’s products, customers, and Compliance function
Support expansion for new payments product launches by scoping, defining and communicating product and compliance requirements
Support the compliance function in defining and achieving departmental initiatives, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, developing documentation solutions, and liaising with auditors
Contribute to building a strong culture of compliance across Mercury
You should have:
8+ years of experience working in compliance advisory role, ideally in a financial technology company or in the payments industry
Demonstrated track record of building compliance teams and functions and aligning team goals to business objectives
Extensive experience working with product teams on regulatory compliance matters including, but not limited to: financial crimes, licensing requirements, regulatory reporting, financial product obligations, consumer compliance, conduct risk, complaints handling
Experience evaluating emerging products for compliance risk, working with the product and business stakeholders to implement creative solutions to tough compliance requirements, and conducting compliance reviews of new products and marketing materials
The ability to identify and define problems, build project plans to address them, and manage implementation of their solution
The ability to effectively communicate across various lines of business and senior management
An ambitious sense of curiosity and a willingness to explore areas outside of your comfort zone, like new markets or new product types
The ability to work efficiently and independently in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment, with a strong understanding of when to escalate urgent issues
Respect for and interest in financial rules and regulations, as well as an eagerness to innovate and drive the industry forward

Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.
Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:
US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $224,700 - $264,300
US employees outside of New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $202,200 - $237,900
