JOB DESCRIPTION
About the Role
Green Dot is seeking a strategic and execution-focused Head of Data Governance to lead the enterprise-wide data governance program. This role will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust framework that ensures data integrity, security, and compliance across all business units. You will partner closely with Technology, Risk, Compliance, and Product teams to drive data quality, lineage, and stewardship initiatives that support regulatory obligations and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Data Governance Strategy: Develop and implement/enforce a comprehensive data governance framework aligned with Green Dot’s regulatory, operational, and strategic priorities for managing data assets.
Policy & Standards Development: Codify architectural governance and open-source usage policies in collaboration with Technology and Compliance teams
Regulatory Alignment: Lead efforts to meet evolving regulatory expectations
Data Stewardship & Ownership: Define and operationalize data ownership models, stewardship roles, and accountability structures across departments. Educate broader data consumers on data governance principles, data usage and best practices
Metadata & Lineage Management: Oversee the implementation of tools and processes for metadata capture, data lineage tracking, and cataloging. Ensures data quality, completeness and consistency through carious quality checks and monitoring.
Risk & Compliance Integration: Collaborate with Risk and Compliance to ensure data governance supports KYC, AML, and consumer protection requirements
Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with Finance, HR, and Product to ensure data governance supports cost optimization, internal mobility, and product alignment goals
Change Management: Strengthen compliance oversight and accountability over change management processes impacting data
Enterprise Data Security: Partners with CISO and develop measures to protect sensitive customer data from unauthorized access or breaches.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or related fields within financial services or regulated industries.
Proven leadership in building enterprise data governance programs.
Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., FRB, BSA/AML, UDAAP).
Experience with metadata management, data lineage tools, and data quality frameworks.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and open-source governance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience navigating organizational restructures and role transitions in a high-growth or turnaround environment
Prior engagement with regulatory remediation efforts or risk committee reporting
Pluses
Financial technology domain knowledge
Microsoft Azure Data Engineer or other cloud certifications
POSITION TYPE

PAY RANGE
The targeted base salary for this position is $165,800 to $248,600 per year. The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
