Background

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Ethereum and related technologies. The EF is not a company or even a traditional non-profit. We do not control Ethereum, nor are we the only organization that funds the critical development of Ethereum-related technologies. We are part of a large ecosystem of organizations, individuals, and companies that support Ethereum. Our mission is to do what is best for Ethereum’s long-term success.

First introduced in 2022, Devconnect has evolved into a space for deep discussions, co-working, and innovation. This year, we aim to take it even further—transforming Devconnect into a 'World’s Fair' for Ethereum, aiming at  fostering ecosystem progress, collaboration, and most importantly: adoption.  We want to create a Schelling point where the community and newcomers can gather to learn about, showcase, and experience real-world Ethereum applications.

We want to support an ecosystem-wide effort and contribute to the local communities' goal to make Argentina the crypto capital of the world. We hope the broader Ethereum ecosystem can work together with the local ecosystem to move the country toward greater Ethereum adoption. **For a look at our previous Devconnect editions: in Amsterdam in April 2022, see here: https://devconnect.org/amsterdam; and Istanbul in November 2023 https://devconnect.org/istanbul.

About the Role

We are looking for an ambitious fullstack web developer who has experience in web2 and web3 development, with a focus on creating performant, slick, functional applications. Our team is looking to improve and maintain devcon.org, devconnect.org, Devcon Archive, the Devcon PWA, and many more crypto-native “dogfooding” applications at Devconnect Argentina this year. These applications serve many thousands of visitors each year, and we look to set the bar high for how built-on-ethereum applications should work and how they should feel. We're looking for someone who loves a good challenge and is excited by the opportunity to develop production-ready applications for Devconnect Argentina and beyond.

The Successful Applicant Will Be:

Motivated

  • Passionate about building world-class, performant applications that will be used by thousands.

  • Excited about the potential of using web3 tech built on Ethereum and enthusiastic about the power of decentralization, neutrality, and sovereignty.

  • Provide technical leadership and management skills to additional developers if need be.

  • Ready to work alongside a developer team consisting of one additional developer and a product designer, alongside our broader Devconnect Team.

Qualified

  • Extensive experience in full-stack web development, including familiarity with NextJS, React, Tailwind, Express/Node, Prisma, Postgres, Sqlite, but generally being able to solve problems in any part of the stack comfortably.

  • A solid understanding of blockchain fundamentals, e.g. understanding Ethereum, L2’s, EVM, wallets, ERC standards, account/chain abstraction, etc.

  • Hands-on experience with Ethereum App development (Viem, Wagmi, ethers.js, SIWE, WalletConnect) and UX/wallet standards. Some smart contract experience is nice to have, but not necessary

  • Have developed websites and/or web apps into production

  • Can consistently produce a clearly-documented and collaborative codebase (with the help of AI) that can easily integrate various stakeholders, other open-source projects, and external service providers.

  • Effective while working under pressure with hard deadlines, unknown issues, rapid iteration, and a need for creative problem solving.

  • Have an ownership mentality. When you take on a task, you get it done. You proactively troubleshoot problems blocking your path, and the problems blocking the paths of others.

Available

  • Able to spend 40 hours per week in this role until at least Devconnect ARG in November 2025 and possibly beyond.

  • Able to meet virtually (video calls) and respond to messages at varying hours of the day to accommodate a globally-located, remote team across time zones (largely based in the Americas and European time zones).

  • Have a valid passport and able to travel to Argentina for Devconnect, and other community events around the world.

  • Fluent in English (writing and speaking).

After 1 month in this position…

  • You have familiarized yourself with the needs and requirements for Devconnect Argentina which have been largely defined by the help of the in-house Dev team, ticketing team, operations team, and yourself.

  • You have contributed to the Devcon/nect monorepo to help prepare for the first phase of our website (static marketing and communication).

  • You understand the various phases and contributed to the roadmap and timelines to accommodate for the different phases (announcement, event planning and curation, ticketing, etc.) and are already at work to implement or plan ahead these deliverables in a timely, swift manner.

  • You understand the types of web3 enabled features we possibly plan to implement into the website (ZuPass ticketing, crypto payments, prediction markets, etc.), are familiar with our dogfooding initiatives and Devcon Improvement Proposal (DIP) process and already begun integrating these apps into the website.

  • You have adopted all project management methodology, and communication tools our team uses (Notion, Figma/Zeplin, Telegram, Discord, Google Docs, etc).

  • You have developed a solid relationship with the whole Devcon team, have an understanding of the various initiatives within the Devcon team, and are willing to help where you can.

Notes

  • Our team and this position are fully remote (except being in-person during Devconnect).

  • It will be important to be willing to have some meetings very early in the morning or late at night, as our team is all located in different time zones.
