Job Description
Location: Remote
Overview: The Drupal Association serves one of the largest global open source communities - Drupal has pioneered open source for 17 years. Join our incredible, mission-driven team and make an important impact by telling compelling stories that strengthen our community, events and product marketing. We serve a diverse community - including coders, site builders, content editors, business people, themers, agency owners and more. Through conferences, webinars, marketing support and most importantly, maintaining Drupal.org, we reach many thousands of people a year in our quest to support and grow the Drupal project and Drupal as a product.
We?re looking for a motivated and independent director for the marketing communications team, who loves strategy - someone who thrives in a dynamic and deadline driven environment. The ideal candidate appreciates working with great people and collaborating to dive deep into technical topics, and excels at driving work forward, elevating business value concepts, and supporting an amazing team of 4 - 5 direct reports. We?re a non-profit, so you won?t find a fancy marketing stack with lots of integrations to work with, but we have what we need and we?re smart and resourceful in using what we have.
We are a small team that works very hard in service to a community of diverse needs. We are not a hip agency with an instagrammable office full of dogs and live music Mondays - but we are a committed group of humans who care a lot about each other as people, and while we work really hard, we also have a LOT of fun. Our distributed team environment supports our human-first mentality - no one needs to be stuck in rush hour when you could spend that hour (or two) doing something that makes your life better.
The Job
The Director of Marketing Communications is responsible for strategic and creative direction across four brands and eight programs, leading a team of 4 - 5 direct reports plus dozens of volunteers, to develop content across a number of channels and drive lead generation, product education, and brand awareness, reaching a global audience of over two million. We?re also a small team that is hands-on at all levels of the organization.
You?ll motivate the marketing communications team to develop a content roadmap across programs and audience personas - and you?ll also work closely with the engineering, events and revenue teams as a key member of the leadership team. You?re confident as lead in the following areas:
- Making collaborative decisions, but also stating the final word
- Setting the strategic course for marketing direction and holding to it
- Coordinating campaigns to promote new programs and revenue opportunities
- Building fluid community communications and PR
- Acting as creative brand director
- Creating and maintaining a system to measure success of marketing programs
- Supporting the goal setting and forecasting for event ticket sales
- Growing and supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives
- Developing and managing marketing department budgets
- Managing a team
- Working with a global, multi-cultural community
- Working in a distributed team environment. Self-motivated in a home office environment.
- Being a marketing communications wizz, but also kind of great at jumping into a lot of other random things just because we're small and always helping each other out.
- Travel at least three times per year: once to DrupalCon North America, twice to semi-annual staff retreats
- Basic knowledge of HTML, Drupal, and Adobe creative suite are a bonus but we won?t hold this against you if you?re willing to pick it up
- Care about the people you work with and the communities you serve
This position is a full time, exempt position reporting to the Executive Director. We are a distributed team that can be based anywhere in the world, but must overlap a minimum of 4 work hours per day with our Portland, OR, USA core team. Overlap is extremely important for this role in particular as a lot of the work is time sensitive and requires last-minute edits.
The Drupal Association is committed to building a culturally diverse staff and strongly encourages applications from people of color and under-represented groups.
Compensation
Starting salary of $70,000 to $90,000 depending on experience
Benefits
We offer all the general benefits you would expect from a modern day non-profit, plus the benefit of working with an amazing team, in an office that?s right in your favorite neighborhood with the best commute ever (your own home office!).
- Medical, Dental, Vision and other options through our cafeteria pre-tax plan
- 401k Plan
- 24 PTO days per year (15 days of vacation and 9 sick leave) along with various holidays
- Work from home with various stipend support
- Working with a great team that cares about each other and the people we serve.
Submit your resume/ CV along with a cover letter no later than July 1, 2019
