As the Director of Employee Relations reporting to the VP of People Experience, you will play a pivotal role in shaping a positive workplace culture across our global organization that supports employees to do their best work. This position is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive employee relations policies and procedures that align with our organizational values. You will lead initiatives in governance related to HR matters, resolve workplace conflicts, address employee concerns, and conduct thorough workplace investigations.

The Director of Employee Relations will ensure consistency, transparency, and accountability in the application of employment policies and practices. Bringing a deep understanding of employment legislation, you will navigate and uphold both company and industry regulations, fostering an environment of trust and collaboration across our diverse workforce. StackAdapt is a Remote First company. We are open to candidates located anywhere in the US for this position.

What you'll be doing:

Implement Policies and Procedures

  • Operationalizes new or revised People policies in collaboration within HR and other key Departments (e.g., IT, Legal, and Finance). 

  • Develop and implement compliance procedures for organization-wide HR policies, providing interpretations, opinions, and recommendations on policy application across the organization.

Workplace Resolution and Accommodations

  • Addresses workplace conflicts and seeks to resolve them positively, fostering healthy working relationships. 

  • Conducts formal investigations into employee allegations r in accordance with best practices and StackAdapt’s policies. This includes conducting interviews, reviewing evidence, preparing materials, recommending outcomes, and drafting closure letters for impacted parties. 

  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations matters.

  • Manages non-disability-related accommodation requests, advising on StackAdapt’s duty to accommodate and identifying suitable measures. 

  • Collaborates with the HR Benefits team on disability-related accommodations and engages third-party vendors for accommodation reviews as necessary.

Employee Agreements and Terminations 

  • Oversees non-compensation-related negotiations for StackAdapt’s employment agreements with internal and external candidates. Maintains all employment agreement templates and collaborates with the legal team to ensure they are current and compliant.

  • Reviews termination rationales with the Legal team for all terminations, ensuring that legal, reputational, and financial risks are mitigated and that compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Provides guidance and scripting to leaders as needed for conducting terminations. Reviews termination letter and package templates in consultation with Legal to ensure best practices and regulatory compliance. 

Employee Relations Consulting

  • Offers expert advice and recommendations to HR Business Partners (HRBPs) and business leaders on a broad range of employee relations issues, including performance management, attendance, employee concerns, leaves of absence, and misconduct. 

  • Ensures employees are treated in alignment with StackAdapt’s values while mitigating legal, financial, and reputational risks. Develops and updates relevant templates, including disciplinary letters and performance improvement plan documents. Recommends appropriate disciplinary actions and drafts the necessary documentation.

ER Enablement/Metrics

  • Develop and track key employee relations metrics, such as case resolution time, policy compliance rates, and trends in workplace concerns, to assess the effectiveness of policies and governance initiatives.

  • Utilize data-driven insights from employee relations cases and workplace investigations to identify patterns, mitigate risks, and inform proactive policy enhancements that promote a positive and compliant workplace culture.

What you'll bring to the table:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working in an Employee Relations role with supporting experience in other parts of the People function

  • Exceptional understanding of legislative requirements in Canada/US (in partnership with legal)

  • Strong business partnership experience, leveraging your perspective and business acumen to make timely recommendations that balance competing priorities

  •  Deep experience in policy drafting and implementation, showing strong attention to detail and expertise in working with leaders and employees to implement policies

  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiating skills

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, adapting to various levels of employees and senior leadership

  • Ability to handle highly sensitive information with absolute confidentiality and professionalism

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and conflict management skills

  • Ability to manage many competing demands and prioritize work accordingly
