Who You Are

  • A senior-level creative with 12+ years of experience in digital-first and visually sophisticated environments

  • Experienced across brand, digital, and marketing design, with a background in industries that value storytelling and aesthetics

  • Exceptionally strong in both visual taste and execution, you can concept and design, not just direct

About The Role We’re looking for a Principal Creative Lead who blends high-caliber design thinking with hands-on design. This is a strategic and executional role for a creative leader who not only sees the big picture but can bring it to life in detailed, thoughtful, visually arresting ways.

This person will help push the creative bar at HubSpot, introducing sharper visual storytelling and more nuanced aesthetic thinking. From concept through execution, you’ll take a central role in shaping how the brand is expressed across digital experiences, campaigns, and storytelling. You’ll work closely with marketing, product, and UX teams, acting as the connective tissue between concept, design, creative system, and execution.

This role requires someone who has a strong point of view, but also collaborates with empathy, someone who can identify what looks good, why it works, and how it fits within a broader brand system. You’re confident directing work, but also have the skills and mindset to do the design work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and drive the creative direction for key brand and marketing initiatives, from early ideation to final delivery

  • Create moodboards, references, sketches, and high-fidelity explorations to define and express a visual strategy and present to various stakeholders.

  • Collaborate closely with UX and UI designers to bring visual narratives to life in digital  environments

  • Ensure creative consistency across all touchpoints, including motion, imagery (photography and illustration), layout, typography, and color

  • Maintain a strong connection to the visual identity system, ensuring brand integrity while knowing when and how to push it

  • Lead creative reviews, stakeholder check-ins, and cross-functional alignment around design vision and intent

  • Develop and establish a clear creative process, in partnership with PMs, that brings the right people in at the right time, ensuring feedback is clear, actionable, and on time

  • Evaluate and respond to feedback with clarity, balancing creative standards with cross-functional needs and realities

  • Able to distinguish great work from good, with a clear point of view on what raises the bar

  • Detail-oriented and system-minded, you understand how a single design decision impacts the entire experience

  • Strong in stakeholder communication and creative leadership, able to guide alignment across multiple teams

  • Comfortable pivoting based on new information or constraints, but able to discuss when feedback risks breaking system cohesion or design integrity

  • Mentor junior designers and provide direction to maintain consistent quality and brand standards

  • Partner with external vendors and agencies to ensure brand consistency across all materials

  • Stay current with design trends and tools, translating these into our communications and design

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of professional visual design experience and creative direction in a digital environment.

  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), with motion design skills and basic video editing capabilities, is a plus.

  • Strategic thinker who balances creative vision with business objectives

  • Proficient in using Google Suite (especially Google Slides for presentations)

  • Strong understanding of design principles and best practices across digital, UI/UX

  • Exceptional typography skills with meticulous attention to detail

  • Experience with digital design tools such as Figma

  • Proven track record in creating successful visual design systems

  • Outstanding portfolio demonstrating versatility in style and medium

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects

  • Self-motivated with strong initiative and the ability to work independently

  • Maintains calm under pressure while effectively managing multiple projects and tight deadlines

Desired Qualities

  • Experience with presentation tools (PowerPoint, Keynote)

  • Agency, editorial, or lifestyle industry experience preferred
