Apply for this position

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Counsel, Privacy and Compliance to join our Legal & Compliance team and help us scale and mature our privacy, regulatory, and contractual infrastructure.

As our Counsel, Privacy and Compliance, your mission will be to lead and operationalize our privacy and compliance initiatives. You’ll ensure Muck Rack meets evolving legal obligations while enabling business growth. This is a great opportunity for someone excited about partnering cross-functionally, shaping scalable programs, and making a meaningful impact from day one.

What you'll do:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), Security Addendums, and Supplier Security & Privacy Assessments (SSPAs)

  • Manage internal and external-facing privacy documentation such as privacy policies, terms of service, and subprocessor notices

  • Advise internal stakeholders in Product, GTM, Engineering, Marketing, Security, and People teams on legal obligations, risks, and best practices

  • Coordinate with the Security team on incident response readiness and compliance protocols

  • Maintain and evolve the legal compliance playbook and internal policy governance process

  • Support internal audits and workflows using tools like Salesforce, Slack, and Linksquares

  • Own internal legal training and education materials used across departments

  • Conduct legal research and support due diligence and integration work for M&A

How success will be measured in this role:

  • Timely and accurate contract execution

  • Quality and consistency of compliance documentation

  • Effective cross-functional support and training delivery

  • Readiness for audits and incident response coordination

If the details below describe you, you could be a great fit for this role:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in a U.S. state

  • At least 4-5 years of experience in privacy, compliance, or tech law with a strong preference for candidates with SaaS experience

  • Deep understanding of U.S. and international data privacy frameworks including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and OFAC

  • Experience working cross-functionally in a fast-paced SaaS or tech environment

  • Strong organizational and contract negotiation skills

  • Clear and concise communicator with a proactive mindset

  • Familiarity with legal and workflow tools like Salesforce, Slack, and Linksquares is preferred

  • Bonus: experience in media and/or IAPP certification

Interview Overview

Here’s what you can expect from our process. We’ll keep you informed at every step and let you know if anything changes along the way.

  • Intro call with a member of our Talent Team

  • A video interview with the Hiring Manager

  • Skills assessment (1 hour max)

  • Peer interviews with future teammates

  • Final call(s) with executive team member(s)

Salary

In the US, the base salary for this role is between $145,000 and $175,000+, depending on skills and experience. Total compensation for this role consists of base salary, an annual bonus plan, and equity. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. For all other countries, we have competitive pay bands based on market standards.

Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
