Contract Development Manager


What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. The Contract Development team, a part of USV&A, supports Amgen by drafting and processing customer contracts in order to assist Amgen in its mission to serve patients by enabling access to Amgen products. We are looking for a business professional who is an expert in translating sophisticated discount strategies and structures, and details from language in legal documents.

In this vital role you will operate within a dynamic, business critical, environment and will primarily be responsible for document creation and contract management of specialty pharmacy services and key payer customer contracts from request to completion, handling contract data for owned accounts in our contract lifecycle management (CLM) database, data entry accuracy and ensuring the system reflects key terms in the completed final contract, and collaborating with cross-functional team members to ensure key controls in the contracting process are met.

  • Drafting and editing agreements, amendments, notice letters and other contract documents
  • Crafting document language that accurately describes new programs, rebates, and discount structures in the completed contract document
  • Collaborate with other functional team members of the department on the operation and implementation of business unit strategies and participating in and supporting meetings to plan, provide insight and anticipate the needs of the business unit
  • Participation in the document management process, ongoing interaction with several cross-functional groups, including Legal, Payer Contracting, Trade Development, Data Management, Government Programs, Coverage & Pricing and Contract & Pricing Execution
  • Project managing planned and ad-hoc special projects within Contract Development and U.S. Value & Access
  • Researching and producing contract documents in support of internal and external audits and litigation
  • Position also involves handling contract data in our CLM system, reporting activities and metrics to leadership, handling customer document files, folders and templates, conducting document review meetings, communicating customer and contract document status and history to partners and certifying that key process controls have been met.

Position can be located in Thousand Oaks, CA or Remote

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR Masters degree and 2 years of commercial contracting, sales operations, finance and/or analytics experience

OR Bachelors degree and 4 years of commercial contracting, sales operations, finance and/or analytics experience

OR Associates degree and 10 years of commercial contracting, sales operations, finance and/or analytics experience

OR High school diploma / GED & 12 years of commercial contracting, sales operations, finance and/or analytics experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Legal document drafting experience in a dynamic environment, e.g., consulting firms, biotech, tech companies, etc.
  • Very strong computer & M/S Office skills; outstanding Word skills; strong administrative skills
  • Completes projects and makes decisions with minimal direction and strong ability to develop prioritization and completion timeframes for multiple assignments
  • High attention to detail/reporting accuracy
  • Project a positive, can do demeanor and eagerly contribute to all initiatives as needed and requested
  • Ability to prioritize opposing interests and projects and handle a high volume of contract document requests
  • Great teammate, looks for ways to support team members
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Ability to be forward-thinking, take initiative, problem-solve, work independently and exercise appropriate business judgment
  • Interaction and strong interpersonal skills with cross-functional teams is essential
