The team
Our global Compliance team is redefining how compliance should be done - we challenge the norms and practices of the incumbent industry participants to identify ways to make Compliance at Kraken a competitive advantage. Our teams navigate the regulatory uncertainty and changing policy positions of global regulators and governments to help chart a path that ensures Kraken is successful in a truly dynamic industry.
Kraken’s Global Sanctions Compliance team of Senior Investigators supports the Sanctions needs of Kraken and its global subsidiaries. The team of senior investigators is responsible for performing Sanctions Reviews in response to sanctions escalations generated across Kraken. Many of these escalations are generated as a result of Kraken’s robust framework of Sanctions controls (e.g., blockchain monitoring, name screening, transaction screening, anti-circumvention controls, account signup/maintenance rules, etc.) as well as escalations from internal partners and Kraken’s first line of defense (1LOD). The team of senior investigators focuses on complex sanctions risks across Kraken’s global footprint.
The opportunity
Perform Sanctions Reviews as needed in response to Sanctions escalations
Perform analyses of Kraken accounts in response to potential sanctions circumvention risk
Review name screening alerts escalated to Sanctions Team of senior investigators
Review transaction screening sanctions alerts
Review blockchain monitoring alerts in response to direct and indirect sanctions exposure
Review large data sets in response to ad-hoc risk analyses
Review account opening documentation in response to escalations from Kraken’s 1LOD
Communicate as needed with Regional Compliance Officers and other Compliance Teams
Coordinate with team members to establish streamlined processes as needed
Prepare and deliver presentations as needed
Prepare regulatory reports in response to investigations as needed
Skills you should HODL
5+ years of relevant experience in compliance, sanctions, or financial crime compliance
Experience with Sanctions Review, or investigations, writing experience at the senior level
Knowledge of major Sanctions Regimes US OFAC, EU, UK, and UN sanctions programs
Detail Oriented and Problem Solver
Strong analytical and writing skills, and sound judgment
Knowledge of crypto, banking, or payment processes, procedures, and systems
Effective communicator verbal and written; able to convey complex issues
Confident, result driven and seek to find innovative and new creative solutions
Experience with stakeholder management (e.g., communicating with global and regional compliance partners)
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across functions
Ability to take ownership of your work product and consistently deliver results in a face-paced work environment
Nice-to-Haves
ACAMS or ACSS sanctions certification
Fluent in more than 1 language; Russian is a plus
Prior regulatory experience or blockchain vendor experience (i.e., attributing sanctions risk)
Experience with SQL and similar tools to perform ad-hoc data analysis
Bachelor’s Degree
