Chief Medical Officer
The Chief Medical Officer will be responsible for overseeing all clinical aspects of optometric care and ensures the alignment of services with the organization’s mission, values, and community health objectives. Lead the optometry team in establishing performance expectations and mechanisms for delivering and monitoring high-quality, accessible eye care to patient population. Ensures clinical services align with the organization’s strategic goals, compliance requirements, and community-focused mission. The role will serve on the Global Executive Team reporting to the CEO.
Oversee clinical operations across all locations, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality care delivery
Develop and maintain clinical protocols, scope-of-practice standards, and care pathways across the network
Ensure timely and appropriate scheduling, documentation, and patient follow-up procedures
Collaborate with peers for the overall strategic planning to ensure alignment with broader organization goals and improve outcomes
Foster alignment and unity of all employed and VSP Vision affiliated clinical professionals to centralize clinical expertise and guidance, and ensure compliance
Implement and oversee quality assurance and patient safety program
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA, OSHA, state licensure requirements, and company-specific standards
Analyze patient outcomes, clinical performance metrics, and satisfaction data to identify improvement opportunities
Responsible for the long-term strategy for expanding services, partnerships, and innovations in care delivery
Oversee integration of tele-optometry, vision rehabilitation, or low vision services as appropriate
Act as the clinical spokesperson for the VSP Vision Enterprise
Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Doctor of Optometry (OD)
Active state optometry license
Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience in optometry with clear progression to executive/senior leadership roles, leading and motivating a cross-functional interdisciplinary team to achieve strategic goals
Experience working in a corporate executive role with business skills and accountabilities
Strong understanding of vision care, healthcare regulations, and insurance practices
Experience in population health and/or disease management and relationship between eyecare and overall systemic health issues
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at an executive level and engage and inspire diverse stakeholders
Proven track record in strategic planning, quality improvement, and program development
Ability to be a thought leader internally and externally representing clinical and non-clinical environments
Ability to build strong and sustainable trusting relationships and the capability to interact within all levels of the organization, internally and externally
Ability to deal with highly confidential information and act as a liaison between the business leader and other constituencies, both internal and external
