As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at TerrAscend will serve as a strategic advisor and financial steward of the organization. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the CFO is responsible for leading the company’s financial strategy, operational planning, and compliance within the unique landscape of the regulated cannabis industry. This role will shape financial policy, drive growth initiatives, and ensure disciplined execution and risk management across all finance-related activities.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO, Board, and Executive Team to develop and execute long-term financial strategy aligned with business goals.

  • Provide financial guidance on business expansion, operational efficiencies, capital allocation, and corporate development (M&A).

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cost modeling, and financial reporting.

  • Translate financial insights into strategic recommendations to support informed decision-making at all levels.

Investor Relations & Capital Management

  • Lead all investor relations and capital-raising efforts (equity, debt, strategic partnerships).

  • Maintain relationships with banks, auditors, advisors, and financial institutions to support liquidity and funding needs.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure compliance with cannabis industry financial regulations, including Section 280E, tax reporting, and limited access to traditional banking.

  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls, risk management systems, and financial compliance frameworks.

Operational Finance Leadership

  • Manage all core financial functions including accounting, FP&A, treasury, tax, and procurement.

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including GAAP compliance and audit readiness.

  • Optimize and modernize financial systems, processes, and reporting infrastructure.

Mergers, Acquisitions & Corporate Development

  • Lead financial due diligence, valuation modeling, and integration planning for M&A and strategic partnerships.

Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing Finance and Accounting team across multiple regions and business units.

  • Drive a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Experience & Requirements:

  • 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within cannabis, consumer packaged goods (CPG), life sciences, or other highly regulated industries.

  • Deep understanding of Section 280E, tax structures, and banking limitations affecting cannabis operations.

  • Proven success in capital markets, investor relations, and navigating high-growth or IPO-ready environments.

  • Strong grasp of GAAP accounting, financial modeling, controls, and audit processes.

  • Track record of leading cross-functional teams, scaling systems, and driving measurable financial results.

  • Executive presence and exceptional communication skills, with experience presenting to Boards and external stakeholders.

  • High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to operate with discretion and confidentiality in a dynamic industry.

  • Proficiency with financial systems and ERP platforms; NetSuite or similar system experience preferred.

$300,000 - $450,000 a year

This role offers a competitive base salary, commensurate with experience, along with annual performance-based bonus eligibility and participation in the company’s long-term incentive plan, including stock options. Additional benefits and executive-level perks are also included as part of the total rewards package.
