Primary Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development Management

• Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of bioinformaticians and developers with varying expertise levels and availability
• Establish and enforce professional software development practices, including issue tracking (Atlassian, GitHub), progress monitoring, and development staging protocols
• Implement comprehensive software testing frameworks and quality assurance processes with traceable audit trails for bioinformatics data transformations
• Oversee security protocols and data privacy practices ensuring HIPAA and GDPR compliance
• Recruit, mentor, and develop junior bioinformaticians and developers while creating robust onboarding materials and coding standards

Product Management & Strategy

• Drive product development for a comprehensive suite of genetic testing solutions including:
  • Pharmacogenomics testing platforms
  • Genetic testing for rare/common diseases, carrier screening, and cancer risk assessment
  • Polygenic risk score reporting systems
  • Ancestry and genealogical analysis tools
• Spearhead development of integrated ecommerce platforms for genetic testing products
• Oversee creation of health-focused software components including medication history tracking, Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO), and pharmacovigilance systems
• Lead integration initiatives with existing EMR/EHR environments and healthcare ecosystems

AI/ML Leadership & Innovation

• Supervise AI model development for medical consultation and genetic variant prioritization
• Generate and curate training datasets, establish benchmarking protocols, and ensure model accuracy, generalization, and clinical trustworthiness
• Implement machine learning pipelines for genomic data analysis and clinical decision support

Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps

• Architect and deploy containerized bioinformatics workflows using Docker and cloud technologies
• Manage comprehensive AWS ecosystem implementations including S3, ECR, Batch, Fargate, Lambda, and CloudWatch
• Design and maintain scalable NGS secondary analysis workflows with expertise in variant calling, HLA analysis, and pharmacogenomics

Regulatory & Business Development

• Conduct strategic market analysis, competitive intelligence, and business planning
• Ensure regulatory compliance with ISO and FDA guidelines through standardization processes
• Develop investment materials including business plans, cost-benefit analyses, and investor pitch decks
• Author technical documentation including Software Requirements Specifications (SRS), development plans, and Quality Management Systems (QMS)

Requirements:

Technical Expertise

• Advanced proficiency in Python, and Bash scripting
• Basic knowledge in TypeScript
• Extensive experience with Django/Django REST Framework for web development
• Deep knowledge of cloud technologies, particularly AWS ecosystem and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
• Expertise in bioinformatics workflows including Nextflow, variant calling, and genomic analysis pipelines
• Comprehensive understanding of genomic databases and ontologies (ClinVar, ClinGen, PharmGKB, CPIC, DailyMed, RxNorm, MeSH, HPO, MED-RT)
• Proven ability to perform complex ETL operations and integrate multiple genomic APIs

Leadership & Management

• 5+ years of team leadership experience in bioinformatics or biotechnology environments
• Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional product development teams
• Experience recruiting and developing technical talent in competitive markets
• Track record of implementing development best practices and quality assurance frameworks

Regulatory & Compliance

• Working knowledge of FDA regulatory pathways for diagnostic devices
• Experience with ISO standards implementation and quality management systems
• Understanding of HIPAA, GDPR, and healthcare data privacy regulations
• Patent authoring experience and intellectual property management

Communication & Stakeholder Management

• Exceptional ability to interface with diverse stakeholders including physicians, pharmacists, genetic counselors, regulatory advisors, and investors
• Strong technical writing skills with experience in grant applications and regulatory submissions
• Proven track record in presenting to executive leadership and external partners

Education & Experience

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related field
• 7+ years of industry experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or diagnostic companies
• Previous experience in product management within healthcare/life sciences
• Publication record in peer-reviewed journals (preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Next.js, React, and modern web frameworks
• Knowledge of clinical genomics and pharmacogenomics
• Previous startup or high-growth company experience
• Experience with agile development methodologies
• Background in healthcare economics and payer reimbursement
